Facial skin care. FAQ

Unfortunately, not everyone has the opportunity to seek help and advice from a dermatologist. And cosmetologists sometimes give incompetent advice, most of them do not even have specialized education. Trademarks try to hook the client into using only their products, and the entire line.

We have collected common questions about facial skin care here and our experienced dermatologist answers them

Symptoms and degree of burn

Symptoms of burns are noticeable literally immediately. Being in the sun during its active period exposes us to enormous stress. At first, the body may just show slight redness. Within a day, the areas exposed to the sun will become seriously red, will burn and cause itching, and pain will be felt when touched. Depending on the complexity, blisters and dryness may appear. The body temperature rises greatly, which can cause dizziness and nausea. Children may experience lethargy, decreased activity, nausea and headache. Symptoms often appear

Signs of chapped skin

In the photo of a chapped face you can see changes in the skin. Let us highlight the following general features:

  • the skin becomes red;
  • a tingling sensation is felt;
  • irritation and peeling appear;
  • my eyes start to water.

Sometimes blisters form, a burning sensation occurs, and the skin takes on a swollen appearance. Often, chapped parts of the body look as if they have been sunburned, but tissue regeneration occurs faster because the damage is less severe.

What not to do if your skin is sunburned

It is common to think that sunburned skin should be immediately smeared with something to heal. You don’t know what to do if your skin is sunburnt, and especially what to put on your face if it’s badly sunburnt? Usually you want to spread oil or Vaseline on dry skin. But oil should not be used under any circumstances, as they clog the pores, which can seriously aggravate the situation. The oil will not allow the body to breathe, but on the contrary, it will contribute to the destruction of the epidermis , the skin will hurt, and improper treatment can lead to hospitalization.

Important! If areas on the face are severely burned, they should not be smeared with fatty cosmetic creams and oils - such exposure can cause scarring and detachment of the upper ball. This is very painful, and such measures will only complicate the solution to the problem.

You need to be as careful as possible, try not to touch or apply anything to your body, and you can also wear light clothing made from natural materials.

How to properly cleanse and care for your face

What is the best way to wash your face?

We have already spoken above about the exclusion of aggressive surfactants. You can use natural products to wash your face.

  • Washing with oatmeal - dilute oatmeal with a small amount of water and apply it to your face with gentle movements. You can leave it on for a while as a mask, or you can simply rinse your face with it.
  • Washing with rhassoul - take Maracan volcanic clay and dilute it in water, kefir or herbal decoction. If diluted in large quantities, you can wash your face; if you bring it to a paste consistency, make masks for 5-10 minutes.
  • Soap nuts or shikakaya bombs - you need to boil them, this is a natural source of saponin, it even foams a little and perfectly cleanses the skin of impurities.

Is it necessary to apply night cream? Or you can refuse to use it

Don't get carried away with creams if you don't need to. A daily moisturizer is enough. At night, the skin needs to breathe and recover. Therefore, I recommend applying the cream at night only in two cases:

  1. Emergency skin restoration, that is, after chapping, severe frost or sunburn.
  2. During the period of intensive anti-aging care - when, say, once every 6 months, aging skin undergoes a vitaminization or healing procedure.

Recipe for natural recovery at night after frost, chapping or sunburn:

  • D-panthenol - 0.5 spoons
  • Aloe vera gel – 1 teaspoon
  • Lavender essential oil – 5 drops
  • Rose maschetta or argan oil – 2 teaspoons
  • Propolis oil – 0.5 spoons
  • Lanolin – 1.4 spoons

Mix very thoroughly to form a circular paste and apply to skin overnight.

How often should you have your face cleaned by a cosmetologist?

If you have normal skin, without comedones, blackheads, etc., you don’t have to cleanse at all. Especially if the skin is dry. The fact is that cleaning with enzymes, microdermabrasion acids, etc. means removing the top layer of skin.

Yes, after peeling, the skin glows and looks impressive, but it is not protected and is twice as susceptible to environmental influences. Excessive enthusiasm for cosmetic cleansing thins the skin, it becomes more sensitive, premature wrinkles appear, and it simply ages. These are the consequences you can pay for in 5 days of glowing skin.

First aid: what to apply to burnt skin?

Sunburned skin is very sensitive. To begin with, before you understand what to do to help heal inflamed sunburned skin, you can cool it. If possible, take a cool shower or bath. This will calm and relax, inflamed areas will be moisturized. You can add essential oils to your bath for a healing effect. A soothing and healing cream can help treat your body when it gets burned. It should be smeared on the affected areas 10-15 after sunbathing, and lubricated every 4-5 hours (we’ll look at what to smear next).

Important! Do not use foam and shower gels, they can damage painful areas and increase irritation. These products contain many chemicals that can cause wounds on burned areas.

A natural fabric is better suited for washing; it can quickly remove dirt from the skin without damaging it. Then apply burn ointment or after-sun cream with light movements. Such actions will immediately soothe the skin, itching and dryness will go away. If there is no ointment and cream, then you can use folk remedies.

Facial care after 30

At what age can you use age-related cosmetics, for example against wrinkles?

The concept of “cream for 35 years” is a very conditional division. You need to remember 3 rules:

  1. Use as problems arise;
  2. Start with small doses;
  3. And don’t chase a quick effect, because truly healing cosmetics will not give an effect in 2 days, you need at least 1-2 months! A result that appears quickly disappears just as quickly!

You can read more about how to choose an anti-aging cream and everything about facial rejuvenation in the articles 1) Facial skin rejuvenation and 2) Why after 30 years it is important to use natural cosmetics!

What is serum and serum, is it enough?

Serum is a very active mixture, for example, if a cream contains from 5 to 15% of active ingredients, then a serum contains from 15 to 40%. It is used only in courses and under the main cream! Don't confuse serum and cream. Under no circumstances should you apply serum instead of cream!!

Are foundation and powder harmful? Can they be used every day?

It is necessary to proceed only from the question of naturalness. If you use it, then only with mineral cosmetics! It contains essential skin-protecting minerals. Such cosmetics are not sold in regular cosmetic stores. Most often you need to look for it on the Internet. And it’s still advisable to let your skin breathe; take at least a few breaks a week.

Remember the basic rules for beautiful and healthy skin:

  1. Water - 1.5 liters per day
  2. Healthy food
  3. Good dream
  4. Daily walks in the fresh air

Treatment of sunburn

After providing first aid, you need to decide how to treat further, because recovery will take a long time and you need to approach this with special care. You can drink vitamin A, which will enhance regeneration, as well as vitamin E, which will moisturize the skin, after several days of use you will feel relief and dry skin will disappear. If you are severely burned, you need to consult a doctor who will advise the best way to get rid of the unpleasant sensations.

It is very important to treat sunburn, as it can become a serious problem in the future. Treatment may take from 7 to 15 days. But even after the expiration of the period, you need to adhere to the recommendations and maintain the correct diet and continue to use sunscreen or suntan lotion.

What to do if your skin is burned by welding?

The welding process is a hazardous type of work. Hands, face, eyes, and respiratory organs are at risk. Neglecting safety precautions rarely comes without unpleasant consequences: you can get a burn from welding if splashes of sludge or particles of molten metal reach you. The danger comes from heated welding equipment and used electrodes. There is a high probability of damaging the bronchi and lungs with harmful gases. Electric arc radiation is hazardous to the eyes.

If you receive an injury, you must contact a doctor, but first aid to the victim can actually be provided at the workplace.

Preparations for internal use

Therapy with drugs for internal use can be used for up to 10 days after burning. Such drugs include antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and antihistamine drugs that will lower the temperature, relieve swelling, eliminate pain, and relieve redness.

Any medications should be used as prescribed by a doctor. Since this phenomenon is more of an allergic reaction, the treatment of the problem must be approached wisely. Drugs for internal use are rarely prescribed and are usually the following drugs:

  • reducing temperature;
  • increasing immunity;
  • help with headaches and nausea;
  • serve as an antiallergic agent.

All other external treatment methods to restore the epithelium and epidermis.

The main causes of eye burns from welding

Neglecting the rules for working with a welding machine can result in a burn to the cornea of the eye. Often the organs of vision are affected in the following cases:

  1. Assembling metal structures without the help of a partner and fasteners. Without wearing a mask, the welder holds the parts with his own hands and places tacks.
  2. Using a low-quality mask. Ultraviolet rays penetrate into the gaps between the filters and the mask frame.
  3. Using the wrong mask. To perform some tasks, an automatically darkening chameleon mask is required. In a mask with a regular shield, a worker simply will not have time to cover his face.

Presence during welding work (forced or accidental). The risk of injury increases on bright sunny days. Having succumbed to the deceptive sensation of the faint glow of the arc, a person loses his vigilance and by the evening he receives a full bouquet of burn symptoms.

What causes electroophthalmia?

Electrophthalmia is a burn of the eyes caused by welding, quartz or other powerful light source in medical language. The main cause of injury is the effect of ultraviolet rays on the mucous membrane, involving the cornea and retina.

The depth of damage depends on the scale of irradiation. A burn to the mucous membrane occurs when:

  • a particle of hot metal or a spark gets into an unprotected eye;
  • open contact with fumes of metals and gases;
  • ultraviolet/infrared radiation;
  • failure to comply with safety regulations (described above);
  • exposure to thick toxic smoke (from a melted electrode) in the eye.

Products for external use

Ointments

Among the ointments, one can highlight Panthenol , which relieves redness, itching, dryness, heals and soothes sun-damaged skin areas. Elovera ointment, an antiseptic based on oils that will soothe the skin, will vitalize its epidermis, will anesthetize and serve as an anesthetic. Zinc ointment for minor burns will serve as an excellent anti-inflammatory agent, dry out the affected areas, and also disinfect burn areas well.

Usually, ointments contain painkillers in their composition, thereby they can relieve pain faster, but it is worth remembering that usually an anesthetic is a potent antibiotic; if you have allergic reactions, you need to carefully study the composition of the drug.

Crema

Creams are usually based on wax, which heals the skin, cools it, oils in the compositions moisturize and help restore the epidermis. Sudocrem is an anesthetic commonly used for burns that affect large areas of the body. The product softens, improves the skin, and relieves redness.

Actovigin cream - heals wounds, reduces swelling, relieves irritation and redness. Vinyl cream - will soothe the skin, moisturize it, vitamins in the cream will promote wound healing.

Creams are very good at healing sunburned skin. Before use, be sure to familiarize yourself with the composition and how to use the cream. Sometimes they use regular baby cream, which quickly relieves redness.

Sprays

Sprays very often have an analgesic effect; they disinfect wounds and soothe the skin.

Also, sprays are very good and convenient to take with you on vacation, and any sprays can be used to treat burns in children.

  • Spray Olazol , based on sea buckthorn oil, has regenerating properties and anesthetizes the affected areas. Red tans and severe burns should be treated with it, as the product quickly restores the regenerating properties of the skin.
  • Floceta spray , based on calendula and chamomile, is used for minor redness of the skin, as the spray cools and heals the redness. For serious burns, this spray is ineffective.
  • Sea buckthorn oil spray is very invigorating and restores the skin. Eliminates itching, redness, peeling. Quickly copes with skin swelling.

Sea buckthorn oil is very effective, one of the best remedies for skin burns.

Folk remedies

Traditional methods are always effective and help well with increased sensitivity. Good in combating high body temperature with sunburned skin. There are several effective folk remedies. Compresses made from aloe, beet, pumpkin or carrot juice. Squeeze the juice, cool it, and then generously moisten the gauze and apply it to the burnt areas. The body may turn red, ache and burn with fire.

Such compresses will soothe, can restore the epidermis, eliminate dryness and burning, and can also be used on burnt facial skin.

Among folk remedies, the use of dairy products is often chosen - this can be the application of:

  • kefir;
  • sour cream;
  • cottage cheese;
  • curdled milk

Dairy products are applied to burnt areas of the skin, previously cooled. It is known that lactic acid products have antipyretic, soothing, and healing properties. They relieve redness, itching, swelling, and also serve as an anesthetic.

But the most popular folk method in the fight against burns is sea buckthorn oil. Cool before applying, then use gauze to lightly apply the oil to the affected areas of the skin. This oil can also be applied to severe burns, blisters and bleeding wounds. It is generally accepted that folk remedies do not help in solving the problem, but this is not so. With long-term use of traditional methods of treatment, good results will be visible.

The skin will not be inflamed, will acquire a normal tanned color, and the affected areas will heal. You can also wash the burn areas with apple cider vinegar or apple cider to disinfect, but only if there are no blisters or bleeding wounds. Folk remedies are well received by children with affected skin areas , and if you additionally use ice, then children will not feel any negative emotions from the treatment.

Daily facial skin care

Do I need to buy the entire line of products for daily care: cleanser, makeup remover, night and day cream and toner - is it necessary to use all of this?

Cleansing and moisturizing are mandatory steps in caring for any skin at any age. To cleanse, you need to choose what suits your skin best. But most importantly, without active and irritating surfactants!

Washing with aggressive Pavs (they foam well and we really like this) leads to disruption of the lipid barrier of the skin (this is such a thin layer of natural fatty lubricant). Thus, our skin seems to become naked and, as a result, is more susceptible to environmental influences - it flakes, becomes dry, and is more susceptible to irritation and acne!

Therefore, it is better to choose a wash based on herbal Pavs (Himalayas, Organic Tai), or use natural available products, we will discuss them further.

Makeup removal is necessary in order to wash off cosmetics - it is better to do this with gentle movements, without rubbing your eyes and skin. To do this, you can make the product yourself from available and natural ingredients:

  • 80% olive oil
  • 20% castor oil

Castor oil is very good at stimulating eyelash growth. And the mixture of oils perfectly removes makeup. And no chemistry!

Tonic - the task of tonic is to remove residues after washing and return normal PH to the skin. Among natural remedies, it is best to replace tonic with floral waters or hydrosols - distilled water enriched with plant microelements.

For example, rose water, calendula flower water, cucumber water. They can also be easily prepared at home using plant distillation. Or simply enrich distilled water with essential oils.

Preparing tonic at home:

  • Distilled water – 100 ml.
  • Essential oil that suits your skin type – 10 drops
  • Water-soluble olive oil – 0.5 teaspoon
  • You can add 5-6 drops of D-panthenol (an excellent moisturizer for the skin).

How to prepare: Dissolve ethers in water-soluble oil and add to water. Add D-panthenol.

Day cream is essential because the skin needs hydration! Unfortunately, it cannot be replaced with oils, since any cream consists of 80% water, the rest is fats and active ingredients. Be very careful when choosing your day cream and don’t skimp on it.

REMEMBER! “Mass market” cosmetics have a toxic composition; their ingredients are petrochemical products, preservatives, formalin and phenol derivatives. It is in demand due to aggressive advertising and affordable prices, but does not bring any benefit to your skin, and sometimes even causes allergic reactions.

It’s better to choose truly natural brands with marks from international Organic organizations.

Should all skincare cosmetics be of the same brand?

This is just a myth imposed on us by advertising. Trademarks cite synergy - they say that using the entire line improves the effect. This is not entirely true. Let's think about the connection between cosmetic remover and day cream?

You should only use products that suit you and that give you a pleasant result. Moreover, very often one cosmetics has excellent light moisturizing creams, while another, for example, has serums, and this is normal.

Consequences and complications

Complications from burns can be very serious. The resulting burns can accumulate and later transform into skin diseases, skin cancer, and permanent sensitivity. Scientists have concluded that prolonged exposure to the sun can cause blurred vision and, in rare cases, blindness. Burns also cause severe allergies, which will then need to be constantly treated, and pigment spots can also form, which are also very sensitive to the formation of cancer cells.

It is worth remembering that something as simple as going to the beach can result in serious health problems. Every doctor advises to refrain from long periods of sunbathing, and to carefully protect your skin and prevent sunburn and burns. After severe burns on the skin, a fever, mild malaise, headaches or nausea may persist for several days. Doctors recommend that pregnant and lactating women avoid spending time in the sun , as this can negatively affect the development of the fetus and the feeding of the baby.

Domestic medicines

What else can you put on your chapped face? The following products are in no way inferior to foreign drugs:

  • Radevit ointment from Russia has a dermatoprotective effect. It softens and moisturizes. The product relieves inflammation and enhances the protective functions of the epidermis. Radevit contains tocopherol, vitamin D2, petroleum jelly, glycerol and other valuable components. You can buy ointment in local pharmacies for 350 rubles per 35 g.
  • Russian cream "Uniderm" has pronounced antipruritic properties. The active component of the drug is mometasone furoate. The cream eliminates inflammatory processes and promotes rapid healing of the skin. Cost - 170 rubles for 15 g.

If your face is chapped, now you know how to treat your skin. These drugs can be bought at a pharmacy without a prescription. Each product must be used in accordance with the instructions for use, which you should read first.

Dirt on the surface of leather products

If you notice dirt on your leather bag, clothes or furniture, you can use a cleaning cream. Apply cream and rub the dull area well. Then dry it gently with a cotton cloth or towel. In most cases, the spots disappear completely. Be careful and attentive when using the cream for such purposes. If the cover of the sofa or the bag itself is made of leatherette, the stain will not disappear, and may even increase in size.

Differences in skin

The main difference between the integument is the number of external secretion glands (sweat, sebaceous). The skin on the hands is rougher and is constantly exposed to external influences: natural, mechanical, chemical. It also ages faster, dries out and becomes weathered.

The dermal covering of the face contains sebaceous, sweat and fat glands to a greater extent . It recovers faster, is more sensitive, more tender and thinner.

The skin of these parts of the body, although they have a similar structure, differs in a number of ways.

  • The hands have a hard and rough covering, necessary to protect them from everyday external influences on them.
  • Hands are more likely to suffer from household detergents.
  • Cracks often appear on the skin of the hands. They are caused by chapping and dryness and cause skin diseases.
  • The face is characterized by rapid regeneration.
  • There are numerous sebaceous and sweat-secreting glands on the face.
  • Facial skin types: dry, oily, combination.

Facebook building

Gymnastics for the face (face building) is now at the peak of popularity. It involves exercises that have a lifting effect. Despite the fact that they began to actively talk about it in magazines and on Internet portals recently, this technique has existed for a very long time.

The most famous facial gymnastics was developed by American cosmetologist Carol Maggio in 1980. Carol wondered: if you can pump up the muscles of the body, then why can’t you do the same with the muscles of the face? She created exercises that give a noticeable lifting effect. In total, the complex involves influencing 57 muscles. As a result of the exercises, you can get rid of bags under the eyes, make the facial contour clearer, remove the double chin, narrow the face, and correct the nose. The result is a non-surgical facelift. Reviews from cosmetologists and women who have done these exercises are extremely positive. Several other face-building techniques are known (the author of the Russian one is Galina Dubinina), but they repeat and complement the Carol Maggio complex.

Why does facial gymnastics really tighten the skin? Our face, like our body, consists of muscles. When we train them and force them to work, they become resilient. As a result, the face acquires tone, the skin becomes fresh (due to improved blood circulation), a clear contour appears, and the double chin is reduced. To see the first small changes, you need to perform the exercises for at least 1 month. Let's consider those that are aimed at lifting.

Exercise for the neck and chin

You need to sit down, grab your neck tightly with both hands and throw your head back. Keep your muscles tense for a few seconds, then relax. Do 40 repetitions 2 times a day. Result: the double chin disappears, the oval of the face becomes toned.

Jaw Strengthening Exercise

It's best to do it standing. You need to smile, roll your lower lip behind your teeth, and press your upper lip tightly. We open and close our mouth, making a scooping motion. Repeat 15-20 times twice a day. Result: flabbiness disappears, tone increases.

Forehead exercise

It is recommended to perform it while lying down. Place your index fingers on your eyebrows and begin to move your eyebrows upward. The fingers should not move. Don't forget to relax. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Result: wrinkles decrease and disappear, tone appears, the face is charged with energy.

By doing these exercises at home 2 times a day for several months, you will see a noticeable lifting effect on your skin. You may no longer need a facelift.

Eye cream

It’s worth mentioning right away that this type of cream has its own specifics. It is due to the fact that the skin around the eyes is the most delicate, with a minimum number of sebaceous glands. It is characterized by an increased tendency to lose moisture. This is where the first expression lines appear, and lack of sleep, air pollution and an aggressive external environment can cause swelling and dark circles .

Delicate skin in the eye area requires special care

Products for caring for this area are selected with special care. It is worth giving preference to the lightest creams or even gel-like products with a high content of sunscreen components. Ideally, choose a cream that does not contain perfumes. In order for the use of cream around the eyes to provide maximum effect, you must follow the following recommendations:

  • first of all, you need to cleanse the skin of cosmetics and removers if they are oil-based;
  • the cream is applied to this area along the orbital bone, but not higher;
  • do not forget that the cream should not come into contact with the area of the moving eyelid;
  • the product is applied starting from the inner corner of the eye towards the temple (for the upper area) and from the temple to the nose (for the lower area);
  • during the application process, the skin should not be pulled, but only patted;
  • To prevent swelling, the cream should be applied 1.5-2 hours before going to bed.

What cosmetologists say

Professionals unanimously declare that it is impossible to replace creams that have completely different purposes and different compositions. They will only help the skin if a woman applies them to the areas for which they are intended.

True, one cream can still be applied to both the face and hands. It’s called “Cream for face, nails and hands.” It is intended only to moisturize and soften the skin. The product is made on a water basis. Therefore, there will be no harm from it to the skin of the face. True, the skin will also not receive nutrition. The cream will simply moisturize and soften the skin. It is perfect for those women who do not like to carry a lot of different creams in their cosmetic bag. It is worth noting that cosmetologists do not recommend using this cream constantly, but only in case of emergency.
