Facial cleansing in the comfort of your home: tips and tricks
The services of a beauty salon specialist are usually not cheap. In addition, to visit a master you need to set aside time, and with the modern rhythm of life there is often not enough time. But why spend money and find minutes if you can solve the problem yourself? Properly performed facial cleansing at home can make the skin fresh and attractive, and also serves as an excellent preventative against various inflammations on the facial skin. And the effect from it, at times, is in no way inferior to its salon counterparts.
To obtain a good result, facial cleansing in the usual home conditions should be carried out in several stages:
- pre-cleaning;
- steaming;
- deep cleaning;
- moisturizing and care.
How to properly cleanse your face: briefly
- Cleansing your facial skin is where you should start and end your day. In the morning, a cleanser is enough, and in the evening it is worth doing make-up removal first. Proceed gently and carefully. Persistently rubbing the skin will damage the top layer of the skin and cause premature aging.
- A couple of times a week it is worth carrying out additional cleansing of the facial skin using exfoliants with acids, clay or enzymes. Such products deeply cleanse pores and help the skin renew itself, giving the face freshness and a healthy glow.
- You can choose a care product yourself or trust a specialist. The cosmetologist will assess the condition of the skin, prescribe proper care and, if necessary, recommend beauty procedures to improve the condition of the skin (cleansing, peeling course, etc.). If it is not possible to make an appointment, you can get a remote consultation by asking an expert a question by mail.
Pre-cleaning
This is a mandatory step in facial cleansing. A procedure is carried out to remove decorative cosmetics, as well as dust and dirt accumulated on the facial skin during the day. To put it simply, this is ordinary washing with the help of special cosmetics, which a woman should practice daily.
It is better to wash oily skin with a special gel or foam. For dry skin, cosmetic milk is considered more suitable.
After washing, do a light facial massage with a scrub. For this purpose, it is better to choose scrubs with small abrasive particles, or compositions prepared independently from homemade products. For example, it could be low-fat sour cream mixed with finely ground coffee beans. Rinse off any remaining scrub with clean water.

Before use, the skin should be moistened with plain water, and application of the mask can be made easier by using a cotton pad. After holding the mask for a few minutes, you can wash it off. Easy preparation, quick use and excellent effect have made this mask popular.
There is another type of mask. But you need to apply it for 20 minutes. It is made from the white of 1 egg and 2 tbsp. corn flour. The ingredients are brought to a paste and then applied to the face.
How to cleanse your face with baking soda
Soda is used in many folk recipes; it is especially often used for rinsing the mouth. But baking soda can also have a great effect on your facial skin. There are 2 classic recipes for soda masks with a light peeling effect.
You can mix half a teaspoon of baking soda and 2 teaspoons of honey. And then the mixture is applied to the skin of the face. At the same time, rub it a little with light circular movements.
Or you can apply a mixture of baking soda and orange juice to your face. The main thing is that the mass is thick enough and does not run down your face. When applying, be careful not to get the mixture into your eyes. As you know, citrus juice will sting your eyes. After application, you can do a light facial massage and then rinse off.
Coffee scrub
Coffee scrubs are popular in all spas. In stores you can see a huge number of jars of scrubs and peelings based on coffee. But you shouldn’t spend money, because you can easily make such a scrub yourself.
To prepare the scrub, you need to mix coffee grounds and cottage cheese in a 1 to 1 ratio. Apply in circular motions for at least 2 minutes. And then hold the scrub for another 10 minutes. After which the scrub is washed off with warm water.
Honey tincture for facial cleansing
Honey is an effective folk remedy that helps get rid of many problems. So the honey tincture will become an excellent facial lotion. It will gently cleanse the skin, help get rid of pimples and nourish the skin with vitamins.
To prepare the lotion, you need to mix 1 teaspoon of glycerin and honey well. Then 30 ml of water is added with the addition of 3 grams of borax. Everything is mixed thoroughly. And now add 1 tbsp. vodka and mix again. Wipe your face with the resulting lotion using a cotton pad.
Stages of deep cleansing of facial skin
First you need to cleanse the skin of grease and dust. To do this, you need to wash your face well and apply skin lotion. Then the face steams. This is easy to do: just wash your face with moderately hot water. The next step is applying the scrub. It will help clean out pores and allow your skin to breathe better.
After using the scrub, some blackheads will disappear, but not all. The remaining ones must be carefully squeezed out with clean hands. If there are pimples on your face, you shouldn’t squeeze them. In this case, it is better to contact a professional.
Now the skin needs to be treated with an antibacterial agent. It can be peroxide or chlorohexidine.
After treatment, the pores must be closed to prevent dust and dirt from getting into them. This can be done by rinsing your face with cold water. It is useful to use ice cubes. Or you can make a mask by diluting blue clay in water and applying it to your face.
The last stage is a mask that will moisturize and soothe the skin.
You can cleanse your face no more than 12 times a year for oily skin. And if your skin type is dry or normal, then you need to cleanse it no more than 6 times a year.
Steaming
The task of this stage is to maximize the opening of the pores for the smooth removal of dirt and grease from them later. In the salon, this procedure is performed in various ways, including using special hardware. Before you cleanse your face at home, the best option to open your pores is to simply steam it.
To steam, you will need a regular saucepan, a terry towel, and some medicinal herbs. Pour a small amount of water into a saucepan, boil it, and add the herb. Cover the saucepan with the broth and remove from heat.
You need to prepare a herbal decoction from raw materials that match your skin type. For oily skin, it is better to use horsetail or chamomile. For dry, wormwood, rosemary or yarrow are more suitable.
To steam, you need to tilt your face over the steam, covering your head with a towel. You need to breathe over the pan for approximately 15 minutes. A sign that the process of opening the pores has begun will be profuse sweating on the skin of the face.
Steaming makes the skin sensitive and vulnerable. Therefore, you should not wipe it with a towel. It is better to gently blot the sweat with a napkin.
Deep cleaning
This is the most important stage of the procedure. But it is important to remember that it will be ineffective if you decide to skip the previous two, or neglect the last one - moisturizing and care.
Deep cleansing of facial skin without the help of a cosmetologist, at home , can be done in several ways:
- Mechanical manual. Mechanical facial cleansing at home takes a lot of time and requires some skill. Before starting cleaning, you should wipe your face with hydrogen peroxide. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and treat with alcohol. The procedure involves mechanically squeezing out sebaceous plugs from the pores. This is done with the index fingers wrapped in a sterile bandage. Periodically during the procedure, the skin should be wiped with peroxide.
- Using shaving cream. Cleaning your face yourself at home using shaving cream takes less time. The cream is applied to the steamed face. After some time, when the foam penetrates deep into the pores, you should take a wooden spatula or knife. Wrap it with a sterile bandage. The knife should be slowly passed over the skin, pressing slightly on it. As a result of these manipulations, the remaining cream will be squeezed out of the pores, and at the same time impurities and residual fat will come out.
- Hardware. You can clean your face at home using a special compact ultrasonic device. The device acts on the skin using ultrasonic waves. As a result of this effect, the general condition of the skin improves, blood flow is activated, and pores are freed from comedones. The disadvantage of this method is the need to purchase an expensive ultrasonic device.
- Using a cleansing mask. This method does not require any special skills or expensive equipment. To cleanse the face at home, time-tested traditional medicine recipes are used. You can prepare the composition for deep cleaning yourself. It is also possible to use ready-made special formulations from the store.
Alternatively, you can use one of the methods presented in this article.
Additional facial cleansing
In addition to basic daily care, the skin needs to be periodically cleansed more deeply. Exfoliating products remove dead skin cells, improve blood circulation and make the skin smooth, porcelain and radiant. Use them 1-2 times a week.
Our facial care line includes several deep cleansing products that can restore your skin's healthy appearance:
- A cleansing mask with clay and AHA acids effectively copes with oily skin problems. The product removes impurities and sebum residues, deeply cleanses pores and helps tighten them, and also has an anti-inflammatory and detoxifying effect.
An exfoliant paste with enzymes is a product for gentle but at the same time effective cleansing of the skin. A soft exfoliant acts as an enzymatic and abrasive peeling: it evens out the skin microrelief, deeply cleanses pores, activates cell renewal processes, and has a bactericidal and soothing effect.
Moisturizing and care
After cleansing your face, you should definitely take care of narrowing the pores. You can use special lotions or homemade masks for this. The pores are narrowed to prevent the subsequent penetration of new contaminants into them.
If you notice that there are small wounds on the skin after cleaning, you should definitely cauterize them with iodine. Otherwise, they may become infected and cause acne and inflammation.
The first time after cleansing, the skin will need special care. During this period, it is better to wash your face with mineral or filtered water. It is allowed to replace washing with a skin toner.
After cleansing, the renewed skin will be restored. Therefore, it is very important not to expose it to the sun and sudden changes in temperature.
Apply moisturizer to your skin. This is especially important for dry skin. Try to do without decorative cosmetics in the days immediately after cleansing: powder, blush, and foundation. Also try to touch your skin with your hands as little as possible. All these points will help keep your skin looking radiant longer, and will allow you to resort to cleaning less often.

Also wipe your fingers. Next, use the pad of your index finger to gently press on the blackhead, the dirt should come out from there. Do not press with your nail, otherwise you will damage the top layer of the epidermis. Do not try to squeeze out the blackheads by force; if they do not give in, leave them for next time, since, apparently, they are not yet ripe. Periodically wipe your face with alcohol or peroxide. 4.
After squeezing out all the pimples, wipe your face with toner or lotion and apply any homemade mask to tighten pores: chamomile, whipped egg white, oatmeal, etc.
5.
Rinse off the mask and apply nourishing cream to the skin. Cosmetologists do not recommend mechanical facial cleansing too often. Once a month will be enough.
