Drug treatment of scabies

Scabies is an infectious, rather unpleasant disease. As for remedies and creams for scabies, they can be divided into two large categories: pharmaceutical preparations and home remedies prepared according to folk recipes. The effectiveness of both is individual - it depends on the specific case, as well as the correctness of following the instructions for the drug. In the article we will get acquainted with both of them, talk about the pros and cons of these medications, and the features of their use.

What is this?

Before we get acquainted with drugs for scabies, let's figure out what it is. This is the name of a common infectious disease. Its causative agent is scabies. It is sometimes called the human scabies mite.

The most striking symptom is severe and sometimes unbearable skin itching, which intensifies in the morning and evening. Following this, signs of the disease appear, such as a rash and tick burrows of a characteristic white hue.

If a person scratches the itchy areas, blisters with a bloody crust in the middle will appear on them. These signs of the presence of scabies mites in humans are visible in the following areas of the body:

  • Inner sides of elbows.
  • Buttocks.
  • Palms.
  • Hands, “webs between the fingers.”
  • Wrists, feet.
  • Other skin folds on the body.

What is the reason for this localization? The explanation is simple: these areas have the thinnest, most delicate skin. As well as accumulation of sweat glands. As the disease progresses, pimples and blisters may appear.

Sometimes, in advanced stages of the disease, secondary infections are added. They manifest themselves as suppuration at the site of wounds. Of course, at this stage, scabies cream alone is not enough.

Members of the patient's family, his sexual partners, and neighbors in the living space are at risk. After all, the disease can be transmitted by contact from person to person. As for the incubation period, there are no clear deadlines. On average it is 7-10 days.

Diagnostics

Prescribing scabies cream on your own can be a serious mistake in treating the disease. If you notice symptoms in yourself, your child, or another family member, you should contact a medical facility as soon as possible. Based on a simple diagnosis, the doctor will draw up an individual treatment plan.

Basically, a skin scraping is taken from the site of infection. In some cases, a laboratory blood test is prescribed to confirm or refute suspicions of inflammatory processes in the body. If the doctor notes that the patient has other skin diseases besides scabies, appropriate examinations may be prescribed.

How is treatment prescribed?

How to treat scabies in humans? Medicines are prescribed only by a doctor after diagnosis. The main direction of therapy here is the destruction of both the parasite itself and its metabolic products. Antiparasitic drugs for scabies are mainly used for external use. These are all kinds of ointments, sprays, creams, balms, etc.

As for systemic medications, they can only be prescribed if the patient complains of severe pain and unbearable itching.

Medicines for scabies

The most commonly used topical remedies are ointments and sprays. They are easy to use and allow you to gently get rid of scabies in the shortest possible time. There are also a number of drugs for oral administration.

Let's look at the most common medications for scabies, as well as some fairly well-known folk remedies.

Ointments

The main ointment forms include the following drugs:

  • Benzyl benzoate is a substance that effectively destroys the pathogen and its eggs. For moderate disease, one rub of the ointment into the skin is sufficient. Typically, this is done before going to bed at night, as the time it takes for the medicine to treat scabies to work is 8-10 hours. If necessary, the event can be repeated after 1–2 days. Undesirable effects may include a slight burning sensation. Contraindications include pregnancy, lactation, and infancy (up to 3 years).
  • Pyrethrins (pyrethroids) – known under the trade name Permethrin. They have a broad spectrum antiparasitic effect. They are considered one of the most effective medicinal substances.
  • Sulfur – intended for long-term use, causes a keratolytic (exfoliating) effect. Use for about 1–1.5 weeks several times a day. To treat scabies in adults, a 20% sulfur ointment is needed, while for children a 10% ointment is sufficient.
  • Crotamion is a rather rare drug for scabies due to unfavorable side effects (skin hyperemia, irritation of the mucous membrane of the eyes). The intensity of the impact is much weaker than the others. Requires twice application at intervals of 24 hours. Produced under the name Jurax, it is only suitable for therapy of persons over 18 years of age.
  • Ivermectin is an artificially synthesized medicine that also has a broad antiparasitic effect (including against scabies mites). In most cases, one application is sufficient. It is a reserve drug in case of severe scabies.
  • Thiabendazole is a relatively safe drug that works well against active forms of the parasite. Requires regular application for a total duration of 5 days.

Permethrin is indicated for pregnant women; if it is ineffective, Benzyl benzoate is indicated.

Sprays

No less popular drugs for quickly treating scabies are sprays. This is one of the most accessible and comfortable ways for people to destroy a parasitic infection.

The new advantages of sprays are ease of use, the best ability to quickly treat affected skin, an effective method of delivering medications, and a single application. In most cases, they include first-line medications - pyrethrins. There are practically no adverse reactions observed, except in cases of individual intolerance. This form of medication is ideal for answering the question of how to treat scabies at home.

Using an odorless spray, we get rid of parasites and their metabolic products by treating the clothes, underwear, shoes of the patient and all persons who have been in close contact with him.

Preparations for oral administration

There are situations when it is necessary to additionally prescribe tablets for scabies. Typically, this is Ivermectin or Thiabendazole.

Ivermectin (commercial name Ivekop) is a powerful antiparasitic drug that completely destroys scabies mites. Can be used in childhood (from 6 years of age). It has a weak toxic effect on humans.

Thiabendazole has an effect on several types of external and internal parasites. They are worms, the causative agent of scabies, and lice. The toxic effect is more noticeable than with the previous anti-scabies medication, so its tolerability may be poor. Prescription in children should be avoided; use with caution in weakened patients with impaired liver and pancreas function.

Use of local drugs

If your doctor has prescribed you an ointment, balm or cream for scabies, then before using this product, read the important rules for its use:

  • Before starting treatment, be sure to completely change your bedding. This must be done again after recovery has occurred.
  • Before using the product, be sure to shower with soap and a hard washcloth.
  • Apply the medications not only to areas of inflammation, but also to the entire body, including the scalp.
  • Rub the preparations into the skin with dry hands. If you are prescribed a liquid product, you can use a sponge for it.
  • During the procedure, avoid contact of the drug with the eyes, nasal and oral cavities, and genitals. If this happens, wash the affected area with water as soon as possible.
  • After the first use of the product, do not wash your hands for 3 hours. And after washing them, apply anti-scabies cream on your palms again.

Drugs to treat the disease

All remedies for scabies are divided into 4 groups:

  • medicines containing sulfur;
  • synthetic derivatives of balsamic preparations;
  • soaps, ointments and liquid preparations that have an insecticidal effect;
  • folk remedies against scabies.

They are designed to destroy the tick and alleviate the patient's condition. The following requirements apply to agents used against parasites:

  • act not only on ticks, but also on their larvae;
  • have minimal sensitizing and irritating side effects;
  • be easy to use;
  • quickly eliminated from the body.

It is desirable that the preparations are odorless and do not stain clothes.

Treatment of skin with preparations for the treatment of scabies should only be carried out in a ventilated area. It is necessary to protect the eyes and mucous membranes from contact with medications. If you are unable to protect yourself, you should immediately rinse your eyes with water. If the drug is swallowed, immediate gastric lavage will be required.

Typically, leather is processed twice. The product must remain on the patient's skin for at least twelve hours.

You cannot self-medicate. The choice of medications for scabies should be made by a dermatologist.

Most often, sulfur ointment, benzyl benzonate, spregal, permethrin, lindane, and crotamiton are used to kill scabies mites. Thiabendazole, Wilkinson's ointment, Peruvian balsam, clofenotan, and ivermectin are also used.

Sulfuric ointment

The most common remedy for scabies is sulfur ointment, which has a keratolytic effect. It can destroy the parasite within a week.

But this ointment has an unpleasant odor, is poorly absorbed, leaves greasy stains on clothes and often causes complications. Therefore, when using it, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the body.

The drug is contraindicated during pregnancy.

Benzyl benzonate

In second place in terms of effectiveness is benzyl benzonate, which is the benzyl ester of benzoic acid.

The drug is available in the form of a cream or emulsion. It exhibits keratolytic, antiparasitic and anesthetic effects.

After a single treatment, which must be carried out in the evening, all active mites die, but the eggs survive. Therefore, the treatment should be repeated after 3 days. Before using the ointment, you must wash with soap and change all your underwear.

Benzyl benzonate is well absorbed into the skin and does not leave streaks on clothing, but it affects the nervous system and can lead to the development of dermatitis.

The drug is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It should be used with caution in children under three years of age.

Spregal

Another remedy for scabies is Spregal spray. It contains esdepaletrin, a neuroparalytic poison that is effective against scabies mites. It also contains piperonyl butoxide, which enhances the effect of the toxin.

Before going to bed, treat the affected areas with an aerosol, spraying it from a distance of 20 centimeters. The spray is applied to the face using a cotton swab. When treating the body, children cover their nose and mouth with a napkin.

The instructions note that spregal also destroys tick eggs. But doctors usually recommend repeating the treatment after three days.

Burning or itching may occur after treatment. The cost of the aerosol is high, but one bottle is enough to cure three people. It has almost no odor and leaves no marks on clothes.

Spregal spray is the only drug that is allowed to be used by pregnant women. It is recommended for nursing women and newborns.

Permethrin

Another common medication for scabies is permethrin. It is produced in the form of ointment, cream, lotion and spray.

Treat the skin with the drug, without affecting the area of the face, neck and scalp. To apply the product, use a cotton swab.

Permethrin works against scabies and lice pubis.

In some cases, side effects occur: tingling, pinching, burning, itching, numbness of the skin, allergies.

The product is contraindicated for infants and nursing women. It should be used with caution during pregnancy and when treating children under 5 years of age.

Esdepaletrin

Esdepaletrin is a synthetic pyrethrin. It is available in the form of a spray.

The drug is used to treat the entire skin, except the face and scalp.

Usually mites disappear after the first treatment. If necessary, resort to re-processing.

Esdepaletrin serves as the active ingredient of another remedy against scabies mites - spregal.

Has no side effects. Its use is allowed for pregnant women and newborns.

Lindan

Lindane, or gammabenzene hexachlorane, is an organochlorine insecticide that is colorless and odorless. It is available in lotion and powder form. Lotion is often used. The powder is usually used in hot conditions. Apply it to the body once a day.

In some cases, lindane causes contact eczema.

The product is contraindicated for children, pregnant and lactating women, children, people suffering from skin diseases, and those who have scratches on their bodies.

Crotamiton

Crotamiton has anti-itch and antipruritic effects.

Available in the form of lotion or cream.

Has no side effects.

The drug is not recommended for the treatment of children under 12 years of age and pregnant women.

Thiabendazole

Initially, the drug was used internally. But due to the fact that the drug has a negative effect on the digestive system, thiabendazole was released in the form of a cream.

It must be used twice a day for five days. The cream form has no side effects.

Wilkinson's ointment

The composition of Wilkinson's ointment includes sulfur, black tar, naphthalan ointment, calcium carbonate, green soap and water.

The drug has antiparasitic, antifungal, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects.

The ointment is rubbed into the skin for three days.

The disadvantages of the drug include an unpleasant odor and greasy stains on clothes.

May cause allergies and dermatitis.

The use of ointment is contraindicated for the treatment of children and people with eczema.

Peruvian balsam

The balm contains extract of miroxylon (a plant from the legume family) and cinnamein, which contains benzyl benzonate.

In some cases, the drug may cause the development of eczema.

Clofenotane

Clofenotan, or D.D.E. is an organochlorine insecticide. It has an anti-itch and antipruritic effect.

The use of this remedy is not recommended, as it has a negative effect on the kidneys, blood, cardiac myocardium and central nervous system.

Demyanovich method

Another effective remedy for scabies is the Demyanovich method: sixty percent sodium hyposulfite and six percent hydrochloric acid are rubbed into the skin in a certain sequence. But it is necessary to treat the skin for at least an hour. Therefore, the method is not widely used.

Ivermectin

In some cases, your doctor may prescribe ivermectin tablets, which have an antiparasitic effect, to treat scabies. They destroy not only scabies mites, but also worms.

Take the tablets on an empty stomach with water.

The medicine may cause dizziness and drowsiness, nausea and diarrhea, and impaired concentration.

Ivermectin is contraindicated during pregnancy.

General or individual treatment?

Effective therapy is not only about the correct use of medications. If the disease is detected in several neighbors or family members at the same time, they all need to be treated together. The matter may be complicated by the fact that the contact person who brought the scabies mite into the house may not show clinical signs of the disease at all.

Hence, the way out of the situation is preventive treatment of all people who are in the source of infection, even if they do not complain of characteristic symptoms. Self-medication is contraindicated here! It only helps to relieve the condition temporarily. After this, the disease will return again and continue to progress.

Main principles of therapy

To get rid of scabies once and for all, do not forget these rules:

  • Before starting therapy, change your underwear, bed linen, and washcloth.
  • Be sure to shower before using medications.
  • During therapy, avoid lying in the bath, visiting a bathhouse, swimming pool, sauna, or water park.
  • At the end of treatment, change your bed linen. It must be disinfected by boiling.
  • For 5 days after the end of treatment, keep the patient's blankets, pillows, and mattress in the fresh air, in direct sunlight.
  • As for interior items that cannot be ventilated in this way, treat them with special aerosols.
  • If the itching remains after therapy, you need to start using antihistamines.

Treatment

When using the medicine, you must comply with some general requirements. They are as follows:

  • all patients from one outbreak are treated simultaneously;
  • treatment of uncomplicated forms is carried out at home;
  • The medicine is applied by hand to the entire body except the head, for children under 3 years old - everywhere;
  • the remedy for scabies is applied to the body in the evening;
  • one-time application of the medicine to everyone who was in contact with the sick person;
  • You need to wash before and after treatment;
  • After the course, a change of linen and bed is required.

A hot shower with a washcloth and soap removes parasite excrement from the surface of the body and softens the epidermis, improving the therapeutic effect.

The patient’s linen is washed with boiling water, then ironed or aired for 5 days; in winter, 1 day is enough, because at temperatures below 0 the itch dies almost instantly. Some aerosols of medications are used as a disinfectant for scabies. For example:

  • Permethrin.
  • Esdepalletrin.
  • Piperonyl butoxide.

Choice of drug treatment

What scabies cream can I use? Your doctor should prescribe the drug based on the diagnostic results. The most effective, of course, will be medications, not folk remedies.

All drugs here are used for external use. The purpose of a particular remedy depends on the severity of the disease, the location of the rash areas, and the economic capabilities of the patient. In addition, there are special requirements for medications:

  • No skin irritation.
  • Low degree of toxicity.
  • Impact only on the affected location.
  • Absence of allergenic components.

Now let’s get acquainted with specific effective ointments for scabies.

Sulfur-tar (sulfur) ointments

If you are looking for the most effective remedy, then you need to turn to sulfur ointment or Wilkinson ointment (it also contains tar). But the main active substance in both cases is sulfur. The drugs are also distinguished by their low cost. For children you need to choose an ointment with a 10% concentration of the active substance, for adults - with 33%.

Depending on the severity of the patient’s condition, 50-100 g of ointment will be required for the entire course of therapy. But if you need an odorless scabies cream, this product is not the best option - it leaves an unpleasant “aroma” and it contaminates your clothes.

Let us highlight the main features of sulfur and sulfur-tar ointment:

  • Antiseptic, antiparasitic, disinfectant and anti-inflammatory effect.
  • When regularly rubbed into the skin, it helps to cure scabies fairly quickly. The product is used for 5-7 days. Rub a thin layer of ointment onto all skin of the body.
  • Such effects include: the appearance of a burning sensation, increased skin itching, and the development of urticaria.
  • Ointments are contraindicated in case of individual intolerance, allergies to components, for children under 3 years of age.

Treatment with ointments

Treatment of prurigo should be carried out using special ointments that suppress the activity of skin parasites. All of them are aimed at eliminating the main symptoms and improving the general condition.

  • Benzyl benzoate. Eliminates signs of scabies by preventing bacteria from developing. Dispensed in a pharmacy without a prescription form. Skin must be cleansed before use. The most effective remedy is thoroughly rubbed into the skin, excluding the face and head. After a day, without taking a bath, apply the ointment again to the affected areas, avoiding hairy areas. After 2 days, you need to wash and re-treat the skin. After 2-3 days after the third application, take a shower;
  • Sulfuric ointment. The best remedy for scabies. Sold at an affordable price in pharmacies. It has the disadvantage of an unpleasant odor. Used for 5 days. It should be washed off on the 6th day of therapy. Rubbed into the skin every day;
  • Medifox. Sold in the form of a solution or cream. The latter contains only 5% active ingredient. Apply to the entire body. The child's head is being treated. The next day the cream is washed off. After 4 days, apply again;
  • Medifox solution is used externally. The following areas are treated: face area; leather; neck. On the 4th day, the patient should take a shower, and then repeat all manipulations.

It is important to change underwear and clothing after each application.

  • Zinc ointment. Mild anti-scabies remedy. It is odorless, so when the disease develops it is chosen. Can be purchased at any pharmacy. The ointment has little effectiveness against parasites. It quickly relieves symptoms, but cannot remove scabies mites. Prescribed to allergy sufferers, people with sensitive skin, ulcers.

How are children treated?

  • Benzene benzoate. To treat a child, 10% ointment is used. Used from 2 months of age. This is the best remedy suitable for children. 2 treatments are carried out - 1 and 4 days. On the first day, the baby must be washed with soap and applied to the skin, avoiding the face and head. It is permissible to shower 12 hours after rubbing. Underwear should be changed every day. It is advisable to update bedding on the 4th day or earlier.
  • Spregal. Sold in aerosol form. Suitable for babies from 2 months. The skin should be treated twice a day with a break of 72 hours.
  • Permethrin. Purchase a cream, spray, lotion or ointment. Allowed for children from 12 months. Used in a similar way to Spregal, but the break should be 48 hours.

Scabies affects the skin of children, including the head. Adults observe a rash in certain areas.

  • Sulfuric ointment. Used in adolescence. It is not advisable to use it before 3 years of age, since the product tends to negatively affect the skin.

Traditional treatment

A remedy for scabies at home is also used by people. The effect is very different from long-term drug therapy. In addition, treatment with herbs and improvised means can lead to unpleasant complications. Reviews after treatment are different.

  1. Ingredients: tbsp melted lard and the same amount of grated laundry soap; tsp birch resin; 2 tsp. sulfur. Everything is mixed and applied to the places where there are scales. On the seventh day the disease goes away.
  2. A folk remedy for scabies is a piece of household goods. soap It is grated on a fine grater and water is added. When the mass becomes viscous, it is necessary to simmer the solution over low heat. At the same time, you need to grate the head of onion and garlic, then add to the soap. After cooling, a convenient form is made from the finished mass, which needs to be washed daily.
  3. The third option helps get rid of pruritus in a week. Take 2 cups of vegetable oil and fry 1 kg of tomatoes in it for 20 minutes. When finished, discard the tomatoes and strain the liquid. She needs to rub herself three times a day for 7 days.
  4. In this method, buckthorn bark is used. Pour in 100 ml of water and place on the fire until it boils. Simmers for 10-15 minutes. When finished, turn off the gas, cover the container with a towel, and wait 20 minutes. Once the mixture has cooled, you can use it. Apply twice daily to affected areas.
  5. Garlic also helps. Take 500 grams of mustard oil, 100 grams of garlic. The latter is crushed, placed in a ladle, and filled with oil. Bring to a boil, turn off, leave for 20 minutes. Then you need to cool, squeeze the garlic into liquid. Apply once a day for 10 days.

Pathology if left untreated leads to serious complications.

Benzyl benzoate

The remedy for scabies, benzyl benzoate, includes both ointments and emulsions with the specified component. The substance is known for its broad antiparasitic effect - it helps to effectively fight not only scabies mites, but also lice. The composition of the product also includes an antimicrobial preservative, characterized by a bacteriostatic effect.

Before using benzyl benzoate, pay attention to the features of this drug:

  • Effective on adults, but not on eggs of ticks and lice.
  • The product is used only after thorough washing in the shower. On the first day, the skin is lubricated in the evening before bedtime. Before the procedure, you must change both your underwear and bed linen. Application of the cream is repeated on the 4th day after treatment. The next day after use, this product should be washed off the body.
  • Causes side effects such as burning of the skin, allergic reactions, skin dermatitis, irritation and redness of the application site.
  • Contraindicated during pregnancy, in children under 3 years of age, in the presence of skin lesions, pustules.

Ointments for the treatment of scabies

Much more effective for treating scabies are drugs that are applied to the surface of the skin:

  1. Lotions, ointments or water-soap emulsions Benzyl benzoate.
  2. Medifox solution.
  3. Permethrin, available in the form of ointments, sprays and creams. In Russia, its use is prohibited, but in Western Europe it is one of the most common medicines to combat scabies mites.
  4. Crotamiton.
  5. Sulfuric ointment. The most affordable drug that will relieve you of scabies in just five days. It has an unpleasant odor that does not disappear for a long time.
  6. Aerosol Spregal.

Regardless of the drugs used, several important rules must be followed:

  • take personal hygiene seriously;
  • change the bedding daily and wash it in hot water;
  • treat carpets, upholstered furniture and all surfaces in the house with special substances that destroy ticks;
  • ventilate soft toys, bedding, shoes.

Following these rules will help you avoid getting scabies again, and will also significantly increase the effectiveness of any treatment. In addition, personal hygiene is an excellent remedy against bacterial infections that can enter the body through scratching and the wounds that appear in their place.

"Spregal"

Spregal aerosol for scabies is a fairly effective drug noted by doctors. The active component here is esdepalletrin, which paralyzes the nervous systems of scabies mites. It is also necessary to isolate piperonyl butoxide, a synergist component that prevents parasites from developing resistance to the drug.

The distinctive characteristics of the spray are as follows:

  • Before use, shake the product and then spray it onto the skin from a distance of 20 cm. The scalp and face are not affected during the procedure. After 12 hours, you need to wash the product off your body. The fight against ticks will continue for a week. If symptoms persist after 7 days, repeat the use of the aerosol.
  • Side effects include burning of the skin, which goes away on its own after some time.
  • The use of this drug is prohibited for bronchial asthma, pregnancy, breastfeeding, obstructive bronchitis, and individual intolerance to its components.

Permethrin ointment

This remedy is the safest among anti-scabies medications. It has a therapeutic effect without negative effects on the human body. Among the features of the ointment, the following should be highlighted:

  • It not only causes the death of adults, but also disrupts the development of their larvae.
  • The drug is rubbed into the skin once before bedtime. After 12 hours, you need to thoroughly wash off the ointment from the skin and completely replace your underwear. If the symptoms of the disease continue to manifest themselves after 10 days, the procedure with the ointment is repeated.
  • Among such reactions are skin itching, numbness in the areas where the ointment is applied, the appearance of erythremia, and allergic reactions.
  • Contraindications are standard: pregnancy and lactation, age up to three years, individual sensitivity to the components of the product.

"Medifox"

This is a representative of the modern group of permethrin products containing natural insecticides. Effective for both therapy and prevention of scabies. Available in the form of a gel or emulsion. The effectiveness of Medifox remains the same when used for both mild and severe forms of scabies.

Let's imagine the characteristics of the product:

  • The main active ingredient is permethrin. It quickly penetrates the outer membranes of the parasites' bodies, affecting their nervous system.
  • Most ticks are destroyed after the first use of the drug.
  • 8 ml of drug concentrate is diluted in 100 ml of water. The solution is applied with a cotton swab to the entire body. Four days after use, the patient should change his bed and underwear.
  • Among the adverse reactions, one can note only a burning sensation, which quickly goes away on its own.
  • The drug should not be used during pregnancy and lactation.

Tablets for scabies

Taking medications in tablet form is recommended only for the treatment of severe forms of scabies or advanced cases. This is especially true for patients facing deterioration of the immune system. Often, such patients are diagnosed with various infectious skin diseases that are associated with the development of scabies.

As a rule, antibiotics, such as Ivermectin, demonstrate the greatest effectiveness. Its significant advantage is that it is completely non-toxic. The only known side effects are digestive upset and allergic reaction. To date, this is one of the safest drugs for treating scabies.

But with all this, there is also a significant drawback - today these tablets cannot be bought in domestic pharmacies, since this medicine for scabies is not registered in our country. It can be purchased by ordering from the European Union or the USA. Accordingly, the drug is distinguished by its high cost.

There is also the drug Thiobendazole, but recently it has not been prescribed in tablet form, since its active components provoke an extremely negative effect on the mucous membrane of the digestive tract, which can lead to the development of diseases such as gastritis or even ulcers.

Folk remedies

These treatments are good as adjunctive therapy to primary drug treatment. Their independent use may not have the desired result. You can additionally try the following:

  • Tomato oil.
  • Buckthorn bark decoction.
  • Mustard oil with garlic added.
  • Dry celandine and cream.
  • Tar soap.

Scabies is not a fatal, but very unpleasant disease that causes a lot of suffering to the patient. It is dangerous because the patient’s body may be susceptible to secondary infections. You now know the most effective external medicinal preparations against it (creams, ointments, aerosols, emulsions), as well as folk remedies that can be used as an auxiliary therapy.

Folk remedies for scabies

Traditional methods for treating scabies for humans involve various methods of preparing plant materials. Birch tar produces the best results. The skin areas are smeared with a large amount of the substance, left for 4–5 hours, then washed with clean water. The manipulation is carried out several times until recovery occurs.

The following recipe has medicinal properties to help cure scabies: a mixture of rendered lard, tar, sulfur powder and elecampane is brought to homogeneity and applied to the lesions 2-3 times a day. As symptoms disappear, reduce the frequency of use.

In order to alleviate the manifestations of the disease, lavender oil is used, which penetrates the skin passages of the pathogen, and thereby reduces itching and irritation.

Treatment of scabies at home with folk remedies, in addition to the direct effect on the mite, also has an additional goal - it helps to reduce clinical symptoms and speed up the healing process of skin lesions.

Plants commonly used by infected people are:

  • Juniper.
  • Buckthorn.
  • Ledum.
  • Celandine.

Decoctions, solutions, tinctures are prepared from leaves, stems, bark or roots, baths are made, and hair is washed with them. For example, a decoction of juniper, which has a whole bouquet of aromas, is used externally. But buckthorn leaves are poured with boiling water, filtered and drunk several times.

Medicines for scabies of natural origin have general strengthening properties, improve metabolic processes, tone, and stimulate the immune system. However, in most cases, folk recipes cannot completely destroy the scabies mite, so they should be used as an auxiliary therapy.
