What herbs should be used in the treatment of psoriasis?

How they work

Herbal medicine in the fight against psoriasis involves several methods of action:

  1. Taking various decoctions and tinctures internally.
  2. Lubricating the affected skin with a healing potion (this can be compresses, baths, masks for the dermis of the scalp, ointments, etc.).

According to dermatologists, skin problems are a direct indicator that some body system or individual organ is malfunctioning. That is why, if you clearly establish the cause of psoriatic plaques, you can quickly and easily eliminate the disease.

Among the causes of exacerbation of psoriasis are:

  • weakened immunity;
  • stressful situations;
  • hormonal disbalance;
  • diet or vitamin deficiency;
  • metabolic disease.

It is quite difficult to say which of the above factors led to the accelerated regeneration of the skin. But you just need to remember what happened to you a few days before the formation of peeling. For example, you went on a diet to get the desired shape, or at the end of the year you had to submit reports and constantly listen to criticism from your superiors, which led to frequent frustration and lack of sleep, or perhaps you recently suffered from a viral disease.

If you manage to establish the root cause of the disease, then select herbs according to their vector of influence. People who have experienced disorders are recommended to take sedative herbs internally. Those people whose bodies have recently fought viruses will need to drink restorative infusions.

Can't determine the cause of psoriatic plaques? Then consult a dermatologist. The specialist, having in hand the results of tests and examinations of various organs, will select pharmaceutical preparations and will definitely recommend herbal medicine.

Important point! You should not expect a lightning-fast effect from using herbs against psoriasis. Beneficial substances must accumulate in the body in order to stabilize its protective functions.

What herbs are suitable for psoriasis on the head?

To date, psoriasis cannot be completely cured, you can only slow down its development. In addition to traditional complex treatment, to alleviate the patient’s condition, it is advisable to use various compositions of medicinal herbs selected by the attending physician. If you follow a certain diet recommended for this disease, they bring good results.

It is advisable to use several folk remedies at the same time. For example, take special herbal infusions internally, and lubricate the scalp with prepared medicinal compounds.

Although the true nature of the disease has not yet been revealed, it is believed that in addition to hereditary sources (genetic pathologies), its development can provoke metabolic disorders and a weakening of the immune system.

Therefore, herbs are selected based on these reasons. The following are considered the most effective in treatment:

Celandine

Celandine grass has bactericidal, anti-inflammatory and healing properties. It relieves itching and significantly reduces flaking of the skin. It should be borne in mind that an overdose of formulations with this plant can lead to inflammation of the digestive organs. Contraindications for use are bronchial asthma, epilepsy, angina pectoris and pregnancy.

Licorice

The use of licorice has an anti-inflammatory and laxative effect, improves metabolism, adsorbs harmful substances, and cleanses the skin well. It is not recommended to use licorice if you have the following diseases: hypertension, hepatitis, cirrhosis, renal failure, diabetes.

Series

The plant has a unique chemical composition, thanks to which it has a very strong anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-allergic effect. In addition, it cleanses the body and regulates metabolic processes. The series should not be used internally for diseases of the nervous system.

Hop

Compositions that use plant cones relieve pain and inflammation. Contraindications for use are various cysts, polyps, endometriosis, and neoplasms.

Sage

This plant is successfully used in the treatment of psoriasis, since in addition to its antibacterial and antifungal effects, it relieves inflammation well and strengthens the immune system. But, sage should not be consumed by people who have kidney disease, thyroid disease, low blood pressure, as well as pregnant and lactating women.

Agrimony

When used internally, herbal infusions with agrimony strengthen the immune system, cleanse the blood, and normalize metabolic processes in the body. The plant also has anti-allergic and calming effects. Contraindications for use are constipation and pregnancy.

Calendula

The flowers of the plant have anti-inflammatory and antibactericidal properties, thanks to which infusions and ointments with them disinfect the skin and relieve irritation. They also heal wounds well, and when consumed orally, the body is cleansed of toxins and other harmful substances.

However, calendula is not recommended to be taken together with sedatives, for diseases of the cardiac system, low blood pressure, gastritis and stomach ulcers.

In addition to these herbs, to enhance the effect, collections for the treatment of psoriasis include motherwort, nettle, burdock root, corn silk, elecampane, horsetail, St. John's wort and a number of other medicinal plants.

Many medicinal herbs can cause an allergic reaction, so you need to be careful when starting to use them to avoid additional skin irritation and other health problems.

Outdoor use

External use of herbs involves applying infusions, decoctions, ointments and other suspensions to areas affected by psoriasis.

Aloe juice

Aloe not only moisturizes the dermis of the hair, but also has a regenerating and antiseptic effect. The “Green Doctor” is able to adjust the rate of cell division, which in psoriasis reaches lightning-fast development (normally, epithelial detachment should occur in 28–30 days, but in case of psoriasis it occurs in 4–5 days).

Preparation and use of aloe compress:

  1. Grind 2-3 aloe leaves to a paste. Squeeze the pulp to extract the juice.
  2. Blot a cotton swab or a bandage folded in several layers.

Local treatment of the disease

External remedies for psoriasis of the scalp:

  • Keratoplasty ointments (have an exfoliating, regenerating, soothing effect). Among these pharmaceutical compositions, it is necessary to note Naftalan, Sulfur-tar, and salicylic ointments for the treatment of psoriasis on the head.
  • Glucocorticoid (hormonal) local drugs quickly relieve the inflammatory process on the skin, but at the same time they have a number of side effects and are addictive. Such medications are extremely rarely prescribed for ICH psoriasis.

Let's consider the most effective ointments for the treatment of psoriasis on the head in more detail:

  • Naftaderm. This external remedy demonstrates analgesic, regenerating, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects. The composition helps relieve itching of the scalp. The main component of the ointment is naphthalan oil. The product is used to treat the affected areas of the dermis once a day for 5 weeks.
  • Salicylic ointment. A mixture based on the acid of the same name. It is hypoallergenic and does not cause side effects, therefore it is used, among other things, in the treatment of ICH psoriasis in children. The composition is applied to psoriatic plaques once a day - patients note an immediate decrease in the intensity of itching and flaking of the skin.
  • Daivonex. An effective ointment based on calciotriol. This is a transparent thick mixture with a viscous consistency. The medicine is applied to the scalp daily for 8 weeks.

To combat the symptoms of scalp psoriasis, pharmaceutical lotions are also used. Let's consider the most popular and effective means:

  • Belosalik. A hormonal drug based on betamethasone and salicylic acid. Suitable for sensitive scalp. It has antipruritic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antihistamine properties. ICH is treated with lotion twice a day for 3 weeks.
  • Diprosalik. This product has a composition similar to Belosalik and is applied to problem areas of the skin in the morning and evening. The duration of the therapeutic course is determined by the individual characteristics of the course of psoriasis of the scalp in each patient.
  • Calamine. Natural lotion with zinc. Relieves itching and inflammation, has a cooling effect. The composition is applied to psoriatic plaques once a day. The duration of treatment is a month.

Another remedy for psoriasis on the head, without which not a single course of treatment is complete, is shampoo. The following pharmaceutical preparations have received positive reviews:

  • Friederm Tar;
  • Friederm Zink;
  • Aloe vera;
  • Tegrin;
  • Neutrogena T/Gel;
  • Tar shampoos: Lush, Alphosyl;
  • Formulations with ketoconazole: Nizoral, Ketozoral, Sebozol;
  • Therapeutic and cosmetic products for children: Me and Mom, Karapuz.

Vitamins occupy an important place in the treatment of ICH psoriasis - they take part in metabolic processes, are responsible for the regeneration of damaged epidermal cells, nourish and moisturize the skin. Essential vitamins for patients with this form of the disease are:

  • Tocopherol (E) is a natural antioxidant.
  • Retinol (A) – increases skin elasticity, regulates the functioning of the sebaceous glands.
  • Calciferol (D) – prevents softening of bone tissue in psoriasis.
  • Vitamins of groups C and B. They prevent further spread of psoriatic plaques throughout the body, inhibit their growth, and have a positive effect on the general condition of the body and the patient’s well-being.

Effect of use

Herbal medicine cannot boast of lightning-fast results. At least a month must pass for the beneficial substances obtained from herbs to accumulate in the body and begin to act. When used externally, the result will be noticeable within two weeks. If the healing composition does not improve the condition of the skin on the head after this period, then you should use another drug, since the one you have chosen is not suitable for the skin.

It happens that at first there is a positive trend, and then at some point the removal of keratinized scales stops. Dermatologists say that the skin is simply accustomed to ointments or compresses. Therefore, you will need to stop using them for two weeks and then resume the treatments.

If irritation occurs, which manifests itself in increased itching, increased deposits, the formation of a waxy crust, or redness of the skin, we recommend that you stop using herbs.

Herbal medicine may well relieve you of psoriasis. It is used as an additional remedy that goes along with medications prescribed by a trichologist or dermatologist.

Herbal decoctions, healing ointments, various tinctures based on roots, inflorescences, leaves, blades of grass and fruits can eliminate the symptoms of exacerbation of the disease, because they have a restorative, sedative, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect.
