The best facial moisturizer

The choice of face cream affects the condition of the skin

Which face cream is best? How to choose the right product? How to make sure it's right for you? We'll tell you what to consider when choosing a cream at any age.

Creams are an essential component of daily skin care. They perform many functions: moisturize, protect from external factors, nourish, saturate with active substances to solve current problems.

It is important to understand that not a single cream has magical properties; it cannot turn back time and rejuvenate your face by 10 years. The products delay skin aging and help it look better. But only if they are chosen correctly.

How do anti-aging wrinkle creams work?

Cosmetics are produced according to a standard recipe from time-tested and experience-tested ingredients. No matter what they say in advertising about a revolutionary technique, any cream for aging skin “triggers” the same processes in the body:

  • Replenishing lack of moisture. The skin loses its elasticity and freshness because the water balance in the body is disturbed. To maintain this balance and the normal course of metabolic processes, there must be enough hyaluronic acid in the deep tissues, and in the epidermis - fatty compounds, ceramides, which are responsible for waterproofing the body and interfere with the removal of moisture.
  • Stimulation of blood supply. When blood microcirculation slows down, cell and tissue nutrition and metabolic processes are disrupted, the skin becomes thin and pale. You can restore a healthy complexion and “refresh” the skin if you “disperse” the blood - for this, stimulants are added to creams: plant extracts, acids - nicotinic or ascorbic, rutin.
  • Stimulation of metabolic processes in the skin. At the age of 30+, the production of collagen and elastin fibers, which are “responsible” for the youth of the skin, slows down. Plant extracts, fruit acids, peptides, and enzymes help activate their synthesis.
  • Protecting skin tissue from free radicals. To maintain youthful skin and maintain healthy cells, you need vitamins A, E, C, plant extracts, and polyphenols.
  • Getting rid of age spots that appear due to excess melanin synthesis in the skin. Acids help stop the pigment production process: azelaic, ascorbic, kojic.
  • UV protection. UV rays destroy collagen and elastin compounds, accelerating the appearance of wrinkles. Excessive exposure to the sun, even in relatively young women, causes early photoaging, so an SPF filter in the cream is highly desirable.

Signs of photoaging can appear as early as 30 years of age if a woman sunbaths frequently and a lot and does not use sunscreen

Which manufacturer to choose

The algorithm of actions when choosing a cream is often as follows: a friend tried it, a colleague recommended it, I read a good review on the forum - I’ll try it too. We didn’t like it, it didn’t fit, it caused an allergy - we put the product aside, buy another one and gradually collect a collection of little-useful jars in the bathroom. The method is proven, working, but expensive. You can save some money on your expenses by preparing for your shopping trip.

What information should be in the product description and on labels:

  • Labeled 25+, 30+, 40+, etc. The active ingredients in the cream are designed for certain age-related changes, so a product suitable for a 20-year-old girl will not help a woman after 50, but a cream labeled 40+ for young skin may be harmful due to the high concentration of active ingredients.
  • Composition of the product. The first in the list of ingredients is the one that is most contained in the cream. Usually this is water - thermal in expensive products and filtered in budget ones. The second place in the list is the active components, further in descending order - the less of a substance in the product, the closer to the end of the list it is. The names of components are usually written in Latin or in the language of the manufacturer.
  • Purpose. In addition to indicating that the cream is anti-wrinkle, look for a note whether it is day or night. You still need to purchase both products, but it is not recommended to confuse them - creams have different effects on the skin.

The packaging of Laura cream from Evalar contains all the necessary information - except for age restrictions

Before applying the cream, cleanse your skin with foam or gel. Apply a little mixture onto your face with your fingertips, while gently smoothing and tapping the skin along the massage lines. After 20–30 minutes, blot with a napkin. The cream is applied according to the instructions and without interruption. Soft and velvety skin can be felt after 2-3 procedures, but the anti-age effect is not earlier than after 2-3 months of regular use.

Ren Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic . “I can’t imagine life without this tonic. It gently exfoliates the skin and is suitable for daily use, and also works great on dark spots that remain after inflammation. I like to leave the toner on the skin for a while before applying the serum and cream. Remember to use SPF as exfoliants make your skin more sensitive to sunlight."

Filorga Foam Cleanser . “I started using it at the end of last year, and my life was divided into before and after. I have oily skin, and this foam suits me perfectly: it washes away sebum, but does not dry out the skin. It contains hyaluronic acid with high molecular weight - I use this product both morning and evening.”

KTC Pure Almond Oil . “I always moisturize my skin after showering. I can’t even remember when I first started using this oil, it seems like it’s been in my bathroom for a hundred years. You can, of course, choose a more expensive version, but I bought mine for five pounds at my local grocery store. I pour it into a bottle with a dispenser and apply it to damp skin. It seals in moisture, making the skin very soft and elastic. And after the oil, I also apply moisturizer.”

Will regular baby cream help with wrinkles?

The lanolin base of the cream makes its use safe for the skin of the face and eyelids, but not useful. Baby cream has a dense texture. When applied to the skin, an oily film is formed, which clogs pores, interferes with proper metabolism and impedes cellular respiration. Judging by the reviews of women, the lifting effect is achieved by a mask with baby cream.

Baby cream is useful for aging skin as part of a mask

How to prepare a mask:

  1. To 2 tbsp. l. bases need to be added 1 tsp. aloe juice and 5 drops of riboflavin (vitamin B2) and jojoba essential oil.
  2. Apply the composition to the face and leave until it is completely absorbed.
  3. The mask should be done 2-3 times a week regularly.

Face cream Dr.Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment . “I love this cream - it's great to use after intense facial treatments like laser peels or microneedling. It soothes the skin and relieves redness, returning it to its normal, healthy color. In addition, it is very delicate and resembles drugstore cosmetics rather than foundation or concealer.”

Useful and harmful components in the cream

All the world's leading companies have lines of cosmetic products for facial care at different ages. The result, as women’s experience shows, is faster and more noticeable if the products (night cream, serum, cleansing foam, mask) are from the same series. Of course, cosmetics cannot remove wrinkles, but comprehensive care has a preventive effect and helps improve the condition of the skin.

You can expect results from a product that contains:

  • retinoids that stimulate collagen production;
  • hydrolyzed collagen to maintain skin elasticity;
  • organic fruit acids that stimulate cellular metabolism;
  • muscle relaxants (argireline, creamide 3, boswellia extract), relaxing facial muscles;
  • Coenzyme Q10;
  • vitamin E;
  • sun filter.

The cream may contain phytoestrogens, but they must be at least 30%. They are contained in plant stem cells and have a beneficial effect on the condition of tissues, preventing the appearance of wrinkles and increasing the elasticity and tone of the skin.

Only collagen of plant origin penetrates deep into the tissue . This one is obtained from wheat germ. In order for it to be absorbed through the skin, activating substances are added to the cream. Production turns out to be quite expensive, and the price of natural creams cannot be less than 1000 rubles per 50 ml.

Adding other components to the cream generally affects its cost more than the result:

  • Hyaluronic acid. It does not penetrate beyond the surface layer of the skin. After the first wash, the compound is washed out of the tissues, so there can be no talk of any long-term effects or positive results.
  • Botox. The use of this toxin is effective only when injected, when the facial muscles are paralyzed and the folds in the skin are temporarily straightened. In a cream it will not have the desired effect. It is better to choose a cream with snake venom, which works in the same way as Botox. Or you can prefer another product with Botox - with peptides, protein micromolecules, which also have a relaxing effect on facial muscles.
  • Extract from the placenta. It really rejuvenates aging skin, but only as long as you use the cream. When using animal placenta, which contains hormones, complications and health problems are inevitable. But in the absence of hormones, it will neither benefit nor harm.
  • Royal jelly. It is only useful when used internally. Proteins, vitamins, and microelements are not absorbed when applied externally.
  • 2-dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE). When such a cream is applied to the skin, the cells increase, filling the internal cavities, and wrinkles actually smooth out - but only for a few hours. Some cells will die during forced activity.
  • Albumen. It does not get rid of wrinkles, but creates a film on the skin that simply hides wrinkles. That is, the real effect is not healing, but rather cosmetic.
  • Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs). After applying the cream, the acids actively act on the top layer of skin, removing old cells and exposing young ones. The face will look refreshed for some time, but then the skin will begin to age even faster - due to the fact that it will be left without protection from UV rays and external factors.

Negative consequences and unhealthy skin reactions to the cream can be observed:

  • if the product is applied incorrectly (to the wrong areas);
  • with special sensitivity to components;
  • during oxidation of components due to violation of storage conditions;
  • increased skin dryness;
  • in case of age inappropriateness;
  • in case of overdose;
  • due to a reaction to ultraviolet light.

If you are allergic to the cream or use a low-quality product, your face may become swollen, covered with red spots or rashes

Nourishing face cream

La Roche-Posay nourishing face cream has effective results, according to consumer reviews. Their Nutritic line is ideal for saturating, moisturizing different skin types, and can be used in combination with special topical products. If you have dry skin, cosmetics from the Toleriane series are good.

Main advantages:

  • light, delicate texture, quickly absorbed;
  • has a quick effect;
  • low consumption;

Minuses:

  • high price.

Price: from 1300 to 1500 rubles per 40 ml tube. You only need to apply a small amount, so this amount can be enough for several months of daily use.

Among the cheaper products, we can highlight the Russian organic company Natura Siberica: a night or day nourishing cream for oily facial skin with an anti-aging effect. It contains natural extracts of Manchurian aralia, calendula, cornflower flowers, cloudberries, which improve skin tone, trigger regeneration processes and actively saturate cells.

Pros:

  • organic composition;
  • acceptable price;
  • deep action;
  • nice smell.

Among the minuses there are:

  • possibility of an allergy to one of the herbal components.

Price: 400-600 rubles for nourishing cream. Volume – 50 ml.

How to choose the right cream

The cream is selected strictly according to age. This is important because all products have different compositions and concentrations of active substances. The purpose of the cream - whether it will be moisturizing, nourishing or with a lifting effect - is determined by your skin type. On dry skin, a network of fine wrinkles often appears - here you need a moisturizing and nourishing cream with protection from UV radiation and wind. When deep wrinkles form, which often happens on oily skin, and the face “sagging”, you need another product - a lifting cream to increase muscle tone and maintain their elasticity.

At what age can you use anti-age products?

After 25 years, natural aging processes noticeably accelerate, and the production of compounds necessary to maintain youthful skin is reduced. The gene that is responsible for the production of collagen stimulates the growth of free radicals in cells, and the body's defenses weaken over the years. The loss of moisture from skin cells increases. Now this process needs to be replenished not only with proper nutrition, but also with well-chosen products. The sooner and more properly care is provided, the longer you can maintain youthful skin. It is always easier to prevent the appearance of early wrinkles than to try to get rid of them.

At the age of 25, the first wrinkles appear and the skin condition is no longer ideal.

Skin care after 25 years

A cream for young skin should contain antioxidants - coenzyme Q10, retinol, tretinoin, lecithin, B vitamins, sorbitol and SPF of at least 15 to protect against photoaging. Affordable brands include:

  • Lumene,
  • Mary Key Botanical,
  • L'Oreal,
  • Black Pearl.

More expensive cosmetics:

  • Myokin cream from Vichy,
  • Avene Hydrance Optimal UV-Legere,
  • Clarins.

Cosmetics for women 30+

After 30 years, the activity of the sebaceous glands begins to decrease, the body’s ability to regenerate elastin fibers decreases, and blood microcirculation deteriorates. The production of estrogen in a woman’s body also decreases, and this immediately leads to an imbalance in the water balance in the tissues and dry skin. Hydration creams, fortified products, and moisturizing milk compensate for moisture loss.

At the age of 30, the first signs of skin aging are noticeable.

Creams suitable for daily care:

  • Vichy Aqualia Thermal light moisturizing 24 hours,
  • Anti-stress cream Bark,
  • Clinique Superdefense Broad Spectrum SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer,
  • Mizon All in One Snail Repair Cream,
  • Avene Eluage anti-wrinkle cream,
  • Lumene Arctic Aqua 24H Balancing Moisture Face Cream.

What does skin need after 40 years

After 40 years, the level of protein in tissues sharply decreases, and the sebaceous glands gradually atrophy. The skin loses a lot of moisture, the amount of mucopolysaccharides - compounds that form the “basic substance” for fibroblasts, connective tissue cells, decreases. When there are fewer of them, the water balance of the skin is disrupted, and the ability of cells to regenerate decreases. Creams and serums for women over 45 contain proteins, peptides, retinoids, and folic acid.

By the age of 40, facial muscles lose elasticity and wrinkles become noticeable.

The best creams for this age, according to women:

  • Vichy Liftactiv Retinol HA,
  • Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream,
  • OLAY Cream Regenerist MicroSculptor face,
  • Clarins Multi-Regenerante Jour daytime,
  • Cream Expert Black Pearl.

What creams to buy after 50 years

At age 50, obvious signs of skin aging appear. Facial muscles are weakened, ptosis is observed, cellular metabolic processes are inhibited, blood circulation is slow, cells lack nutrition and moisture. The skin becomes dry and thin, wrinkles deepen and age spots appear.

At 50 years old, the only way to significantly improve your skin condition is through injections and plastic surgery.

Creams that are in demand among mature women:

  • L'Oreal Paris Age expert,
  • Vichy Slow Age,
  • Librederm Hyaluronic filler,
  • Skin Doctors Superfacelift,
  • Holy Land Age Control Renewal Cream.

Face tightening creams

Creams with a lifting effect are not recommended for use before the age of 35. Face lift products come in superficial forms, which contain alpha hydroxy acids, and deep-action creams with peptides, retinoids, amino acids, plant extracts, that is, those components that stimulate collagen synthesis and restore moisture exchange.

“Light” creams are not suitable for regular use; they are best used only when absolutely necessary due to their adverse effects on the skin. “Deep acting” creams, on the contrary, need to be used constantly and without interruption. The components of creams and serums do not work quickly; an “instant miracle” only happens in advertising.

“Deep-acting” products that are popular among women:

  • Intensive Lifting Night Cream from L. Raphael, night cream with seaweed;
  • Chanel Le Lift serum with bindweed edulis root extract;
  • Stimulskin Plus serum from Darphin with hyaluronic acid and algae;
  • Dynalift HYA lifting serum from SwissCode with Botox effect;
  • Kiehl's Precision Lifting & Pore Tightening concentrate with yeast extract;
  • Helena Rubinstein Pro Filler Serum with hyaluronic acid;
  • Perform Lift Jour cream from Payot with hyaluronic acid and vitamin E;
  • Beauty Style Lipoft with guarana extract and essential oils to combat early signs of aging.

Superficial lifting cream actually gives quick results - the skin becomes smoother, wrinkles and bags under the eyes disappear

If you confuse jars with night and day cream, your skin will look unhealthy. If you apply night cream in the morning, the skin will shine and swelling may appear. Without a nourishing night cream, the skin will be dry in the morning and peeling may occur.

There are universal products designed for use both at night and during the day. They contain components that complement each other.

How to make anti-wrinkle cream with your own hands

To prepare 50 ml of cream you will need:

  • Alphalip;
  • complex of extracts “Anti-aging”;
  • Matrikine peptide, wrinkle filler;
  • elastin and collagen complex;
  • Anion-gel, gelling agent;
  • preservative;
  • for dry skin: rice bran, avocado and almond oil;
  • for oily skin: grape seed oil.

Recipe:

  1. Pour 25 ml of clean water into a measuring cup, add 0.5 tsp. Alphalipa, 1 tsp. complex of extracts, 20 drops of peptide, 0.5 tsp. complex of elastin and collagen.
  2. Mix everything thoroughly and add 20 drops of gelling agent.
  3. Wait 15 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  4. Add 0.5 tsp. rice bran oil, 1 tsp. avocado and almond oils, if the skin is oily - only 1 tsp. grape seed oils.
  5. At the end, add 3-4 drops of preservative to make the cream last longer.

The composition has a beneficial effect on the skin, nourishes and moisturizes it, evens out the complexion. The option is quite budget-friendly, like any home remedies, but it is also used more for prevention than for combating wrinkles.

Folk cosmetology offers several recipes for creams based on herbs and oils:

  • Dried linden and chamomile flowers are brewed with 0.5 tbsp. hot water and leave for 15–20 minutes. Strain and add 1 tbsp. l. olive oil, grind until smooth. Apply to the face and leave overnight.
  • Chamomile (2 tablespoons is enough) is poured with a quarter cup of boiling water, left for an hour in a warm place, then the liquid is drained. Add glycerin, grape seed oil, honey in equal proportions, stir until smooth.
  • Take linseed oil, wheat germ and grape seed oil in equal proportions - 1 tsp each is enough, add lavender oil - a quarter of a teaspoon, heated lanolin. Stir and cool.
  • Finely grate the carrots and simmer over low heat with the addition of vegetable oil. Strain, add 20 g of heated natural wax, 0.5 tbsp. l. honey and a little cedar oil. Stir until smooth.

You should store your own prepared cream in a cool place for no longer than 5 days. Should be used daily 1-2 times a day.

Instant anti-wrinkle creams and their features

There are a lot of videos online where women take part in experiments and become younger literally before our eyes.

Video: instant wrinkle smoothing - fake or true

In life, it turns out, a similar result can also be achieved - only not from an advertised miracle serum from an unknown manufacturer, either from China or from Blagoveshchensk, but from a high-quality store-bought cream, which contains:

  • 2-dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE);
  • albumen;
  • alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs).

The active components in such products act from the inside, but their effect is short-lived, and the consequences for skin health are negative. When the product wears off, the signs of aging skin will become even more noticeable.

Before using “instant action” creams, cosmetologists advise checking your skin for allergies and applying a little product to your wrist. The use of such drugs for inflammation and herpes is not indicated. Doctors also warn about the possible incompatibility of creams with decorative cosmetics.

For “emergency” rejuvenation, you can use a filler cream that fills wrinkles from the outside. A foundation is applied on top of this product, so that age-related changes are almost invisible. The advantage of this method is that the filler is more of a caring agent and is gentle on the tissue.

Products that have proven themselves on the Russian market:

  • Wrinkle filler Advanced Filler from Vichy;
  • Anti-aging filler Snail cream Snail Gold 7 in 1;
  • Snail Blink Snail Cream;
  • L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Filler;
  • Filorga Time-Filler;
  • Mary Kay TimeWise Repair Volu-Fill.

Cream filler fills wrinkles and evens out the skin

Myths and reality about anti-wrinkle creams

Manufacturers often use theoretical findings from laboratory studies. They simply take the fact, for example, that flaxseed oil contains phytoestrogens, which have a beneficial effect on the skin, and use this data for advertising purposes. No one talks about the details: for example, that the compounds are absorbed by the skin in a split form and will only be useful if a person takes the oil internally.

Rubbing collagen into the skin is absolutely pointless, since its compounds are too large to penetrate the top layer of skin . Doctors never tire of repeating that collagen in cream can only cause harm by clogging pores. You can really get rid of wrinkles only with collagen injections.

Creams with liposomes are sold because people believe in an unconfirmed theory that as cells age, their membrane thickens, and liposomes return moisture to the cells and help restore them. But studies by British scientists have shown that both old and young cells have a membrane of the same thickness, and the introduction of liposomes into the tissue had no effect on the structure of the cells.

Creams based on natural ingredients also turned out to be useless in terms of reducing wrinkles. Products labeled "organic" can be helpful in skin care, but synthetic compounds are definitely better at restoring cellular metabolism.

Inexpensive

A budget face cream can also be good. After all, the skin only needs good hydration, a complex of vitamins and a water composition, and not expensive extracts and substances. The ratings are topped by German products Nivea and the young Russian brand Libriderm. They have earned trust with their consistent quality and stable, noticeable effect. Briefly about each of them:

  • Armenian eggplants for the winter - recipes for preparations. How to deliciously cook eggplants in Armenian style
  • Strawberries with sugar for the winter without cooking
  • D-dimer - what does it mean?

Advantages of Nivea facial care products:

  • Good for daily use in combination: cleansing balm and facial cream.
  • Can well moisturize dry skin.
  • Hypoallergenic, have a safe composition and a pleasant smell.

Their disadvantages:

  • Not effective enough in the fight against age-related signs.

What can you say about the advantages of Libriderm products?

  • Affordable price, domestic manufacturer.
  • Favorable volumes.
  • A large selection of facial products: revitalizing serums, super moisturizing masks and simple nourishing creams.

Of the minuses:

  • Controversial reviews, clinically unproven effectiveness.
