Today the women's club "Those Over 30" decided to talk to you about diaper rash in adults. These are inflammatory phenomena that occur due to the progression of a bacterial or fungal infection. The most common cause of concern is diaper rash under the armpit, in the groin area, under the breasts or near the anus.
Diaper rash most often occurs where there is constant moisture or where the skin rubs against clothing. An adult experiences burning and itching sensations and discomfort. And if a secondary infection is added to this, the inflammation intensifies.
Why does diaper rash appear?
An adult can suffer from such an unpleasant phenomenon for a number of reasons:
- hyperhidrosis, when a person suffers from increased sweating;
- excess weight – against this background there may be excess secretion of the sebaceous glands;
- urinary incontinence;
- improper or insufficient hygiene;
- immunity is weakened;
- diabetes;
- if you are allergic to food or any ingredients that you use while showering.
A woman may develop diaper rash if she wears sanitary pads not only during menstruation, but every day. Adult women also experience diaper rash in the groin area if they choose synthetic underwear or clothing.
What other reasons can cause diaper rash? These are diseases - even a common cold or viral infection can cause skin irritation, as can diarrhea and hemorrhoids.
Of course, the most obvious reason why diaper rash occurs in adults, requiring proper treatment, is the patient's prolonged stay in a lying position. This situation results, for example, from a stroke or when an adult receives any mechanical injury.
Irritation in the folds of the skin occurs if the body is in a state of overheating for a long time and there is no ventilation, that is, banal ventilation. The process is explained quite simply. To cool down, the body needs to produce sweat. For example, this is how diaper rash appears in the groin in adults: bacteria and fungi begin to multiply with high intensity on wet skin. The skin turns red and becomes irritated.
How does it happen that the skin on the buttocks, or rather, next to them, becomes irritated? This usually happens in an elderly person if he suffers from urinary incontinence. Similar diaper rash can also occur with rectal fissures or hemorrhoids.
The komy-za30.ru club will not delve into the details of the classification of diaper rash, so that you do not decide to diagnose yourself, but contact a dermatologist.
What remedies are best to use for inflammation?
First you need to rinse the affected area well.
To do this you can use:
- regular baby soap;
- a weak solution of furatsilin;
- a weak solution of potassium permanganate - it is good for treating bedsores.
Patients who have developed bedsores are given dressings using preparations containing zinc, but such treatment is prescribed by the attending doctor. When treating more complex types, the inflamed areas are smeared with special antifungal creams.
Treatments and remedies for diaper rash are selected and their use is monitored by the doctor, who also gives some recommendations:
- When a crust has already formed at the site of the bedsore, treat this area and the folds of the skin with cream. For these cases, both Bepanten and Lorinden or cream containing calendula are suitable. A good effect is obtained from Lassara Paste, which dries out the skin. You can use baby cream, Sanosan.
- You can use special ointments; they can protect the damaged area from microorganisms. Typically these ointments are made from medicinal plants. Zinc ointment is considered the most effective. You can use: Levomekol, Clotrimazole, Baneocin, Desitin.
- A good remedy for diaper rash that heals wounds is sea buckthorn oil, which promotes tissue regeneration and softens and moisturizes the skin, eliminates fungus, and relieves pain. Sunflower oil must be boiled before use. Before use, consult a doctor.
- To heal wounds, first wipe the areas with a 2% solution of salicylic acid, then sprinkle with a special powder with talc. Streptocide powder is used for purulent diaper rash wounds. Has antimicrobial and antiseptic effects. Since the drug dries out the skin greatly, it is necessary to apply a moisturizer.
- Sprays are very convenient for treating affected areas.
They are quickly and easily absorbed and there is no need to touch the painful area, that is, they do not cause discomfort. Panthenol spray is approved for use by pregnant, lactating and newborns. - The mash dries out wounds and has an antibacterial effect.
- Fukortsin is an antiseptic. There is a colorless one that relieves inflammation. The pink solution also has an antifungal effect. Can be used on the recommendation of a doctor.
Specifics of treatment
How to treat diaper rash in adults should be prescribed by a doctor. Treatment is conservative. If the groin, the area under the arm, or the area near the buttocks are affected, then the action plan is something like this:
- an adult must carry out normal hygiene procedures - wash the groin and other areas;
- allow the skin to dry completely and only then put on clothes;
- Make sure that the area where there is diaper rash is in contact only with natural fabrics - no synthetics.
Treatment is carried out using one or another antiseptic: Furacilin or Chlorhexidine. Antihistamines are used to reduce itching sensations. In this case, diaper rash should be treated with Claritin or Suprastin - only according to a doctor’s indications, of course.
Sudocrem for diaper rash
This cream is also used by both adults and children, and there are no restrictions on gender, it can be used by both men and women. It is produced by an Irish company that specializes in the production of children's cosmetics. Sudocrem is produced in a white 60g jar with orange inscriptions, sometimes there is a larger package - 125g. The cost of a small jar in different regions of the country is around 300 rubles.
This Sudocrem contains zinc oxide, which determines its main effect. In addition, the product has the following beneficial properties:
- anti-inflammatory;
- absorbent;
- antibacterial;
- painkillers;
- antifungal.
This suggests that the use of Sudocrem does not just eliminate diaper rash, it can act directly on the cause of its occurrence and prevent the disease in the future. It is best to purchase Sudocrem at a pharmacy; shopping in cheaper stores or ordering online can be harmful, since there are low-quality fakes. Not only can they not have a positive effect, but they can also cause harm.
Sudocrem is applied directly to the affected area in a thin layer without rubbing. Unless otherwise prescribed by the attending physician, the cream should be applied 4 to 6 times a day. You should stop using it when the diaper rash has completely disappeared, you can continue treatment for some time after that to avoid the recurrence of the problem.
The beneficial properties of Sudocrem are explained by its composition. Zinc oxide has a drying effect and also prevents inflammation. Lanolin eliminates damage, softens rough, inflamed skin and prevents excessive sweating. Benzyl benzoate helps accelerate the regeneration of skin cells, thereby promoting rapid healing of the damaged area. Benzyl alcohol gives a cooling sensation and eliminates discomfort. Benzyl cinnamate helps strengthen the skin's protective function against germs and bacteria.
Sudocrem is suitable for preventive use, in which case it needs to be applied to problem areas once a day or less. In addition, it is better to always keep this remedy in your home medicine cabinet, so that if diaper rash appears, treatment can be started immediately. Sudocrem can relieve skin inflammation in the early stages. For regular treatment, it is better to purchase a 125g jar; especially in advanced cases, it can be used completely. For prevention or as an express remedy, it is better to buy the smallest package of Sudocrem, since its shelf life is 5 years, and if used rarely, you may not use even half of the product during this period.
Treatment with ointments
If an adult has second-degree diaper rash, the doctor may prescribe an ointment with a drying effect: Zinc, Desitin or Teymurov’s paste. If a specialist has identified fungal flora, he can prescribe fungicidal agents . The groin is treated with fungicidal preparations. This may be a cream or tablets for systemic use.
If an adult suffers from diaper rash in a very advanced stage, that is, weeping wounds have appeared, apply compresses soaked in solutions of copper sulfate, zinc or resorcinol. When fluid stops oozing from the affected area, glucocorticoids are prescribed, and an ointment for diaper rash in adults may also be prescribed.
In order to speed up skin healing, you need to additionally treat diaper rash with sea buckthorn oil and Levomekol. Products that have an oil or greasy base should be used only after cracks and erosions have completely healed. Otherwise, improper treatment can lead to the inflammation process only intensifying.
If a person suffers not only from diaper rash, but also from a streptococcal infection, then an ointment or cream will not be enough. Your doctor may prescribe vitamins or antibiotics. And if the immune system is severely weakened, the specialist will prescribe a course of immunomodulators.
How to treat diaper rash
The best way to deal with rashes is prevention. You should keep your skin clean and dry, use baby powder, and observe good personal hygiene. Adults should wear soft underwear made from natural fabrics, without rough seams. The rest of your clothing should not be tight-fitting, especially in hot weather. When it comes to bedridden patients, you should change their diapers more often and wash the perineum to eliminate discomfort. Proper treatment of diaper rash includes the use of:
- hydrocortisone creams;
- antifungal ointments (in the presence of a fungal infection);
- steroid creams;
- local or oral antibiotics (in case of bacterial infection);
- baby powders, talc.

Home techniques
In order to treat the groin or other folds of skin where diaper rash has formed, folk remedies are sometimes used.
So, at home, ointments are prepared based on pork fat, medicinal herbs, tea tree oil, and aloe vera juice.
But we will not give the full prescription, because only a doctor should prescribe treatment after a comprehensive diagnosis.

Diagnosis of whooping cough in children
There are clinical periods of whooping cough in which symptoms and treatments can vary significantly.
The following periods of whooping cough in children are distinguished:
- catarrhal, which disguises itself as a typical acute respiratory viral infection with an accompanying runny nose, sore throat, dry cough and fever;
- convulsive with spasms of muscle tissue, clinically manifested in typical coughing attacks with a preceding aura in the form of anxiety and lack of air;
- The recovery period, during which symptoms subside and attacks become less frequent, can last up to 2 months.
The first signs of whooping cough appear after the end of the incubation period, which can last from 3 days to 2 weeks.
The typical location and striking symptoms usually do not raise doubts about the diagnosis. Diaper rash is differentiated from erythrasma, chronic limited neurodermatitis, dermatophytosis, and psoriasis. Seeing a doctor is mandatory - only a doctor knows how to cure diaper rash in each specific case; there is no general treatment for all types of diaper rash!
Timely diagnosis of whooping cough helps limit the spread of the pathogen. The chain of infection is naturally broken, and the number of affected children is reduced.
Equally important is the rapid diagnosis of whooping cough in children in relation to the patient himself and the prognosis for his life and health. As practice shows, earlier treatment of the disease with antibiotics reduces the recovery period by almost 2 times.
The primary diagnosis is established based on the clinical picture. The changes in the composition of peripheral blood are not significant. Leukocytosis and changes in erythrocyte sedimentation rate may be observed. The number of lymphocytes increases. During the spasmodic period, a decrease in hemoglobin and hematocrit levels may be detected.
To clarify the diagnosis, a bacteriological culture of sputum or a throat smear is performed. To more quickly establish a final diagnosis, a serological blood test can be performed to detect the presence of specific antibodies. The agglutination reaction is being studied. At an early stage, the intradermal test method helps to identify pathology.

Preventive measures
Any pathological condition is easier to prevent than to treat. To prevent problems with your baby’s skin, you must follow simple rules:
Taking air baths every day.
- The room temperature should not exceed 25 degrees.
- Regular ventilation.
- Bathing is carried out every day during the hot period and every other day during the cold period.
- After bathing, all skin folds are wiped dry and treated with oil or cream.
- Daily walks.
- Compliance with the diet of a nursing mother.
- Frequent diaper changes. It is not advisable to wear hygiene products at home; it is better to change and wash linen and diapers made from natural fabrics more often.
- Change soiled clothes and bed linen immediately.
- Children's items should be processed at maximum temperature. When washing, special hypoallergenic products are used that do not remain in the fibers. After drying, the laundry is ironed on both sides.
- Protective zinc ointment must be used under diapers. It repels moisture, protecting sensitive areas.
- At high ambient temperatures, do not use baby powder or starch. The substance absorbs moisture, clumps and causes inconvenience.
- After defecation, the baby’s bottom is washed with warm water and special soap, then each fold is carefully wiped. If it is impossible to rinse, take a wet cloth and wipe it between the buttocks, in the groin, between the legs.
For the treatment of diaper rash in infants, there are many time-tested and medical practice-tested remedies. The main thing is to notice and take action in a timely manner, then it will be easier and faster to get rid of painful foci of inflammation.
