The main therapeutic effect of the active component of Zalain - sertaconazole nitrate - is to suppress fungal infection. The medication is applied topically and does not enter the bloodstream. The price of the drug Zalain is quite high, so many patients are interested in analogs that are cheaper than the original drug.
The cream is used to treat the following skin lesions:
- epidermophytosis of the legs and feet;
- dermatophytosis in the groin area;
- osseous dermatomycosis;
- dermatomycosis of the skin;
- epithelial candidiasis;
- pityriasis versicolor;
- trichophytosis on the face.
Zalain during pregnancy
Vaginal suppositories are used for the following genital infections:
- candidiasis;
- dermatophytes;
- streptococcal infections;
- staphylococci;
- Trichomonas.
It should be used with caution in the treatment of patients with hypersensitivity to sertaconazole and imidazole. The drug is safe for children, and can also be used during pregnancy and lactation. Despite the safety of the drug, it is prescribed for pregnant women as a last resort and under the strict supervision of a doctor.
The cream should be applied twice a day to the affected area until the symptoms of the disease disappear. When applying, you need to capture areas of healthy skin near the affected area of the epidermis. After the signs of infection disappear, it is necessary to apply the medication for another 10-15 days in order to prevent relapse of the pathology. Suppositories must be inserted deep into the vagina at night.

Description and composition of the drug Zalain
The remedy Zalain is produced in the form of 2% cream, 20 grams each in a tube, placed in a cardboard box and in the form of suppositories (candles), 1 piece in a blister, placed in a cardboard box.
Zalain is a medicine that successfully fights fungi of the genus Candida. The effectiveness of the action lies in the main component - sertaconazole nitrate, which leads to stopping the growth and development of bacteria dangerous to health. Just 20 mg of the substance included in the Zalain suppository penetrates into yeast-like microorganisms through a damaged cell membrane and causes their death.
Since high-quality treatment of vaginal candidiasis consists of simultaneous therapy for both sexual partners, the doctor prescribes Zalain for thrush in the form of suppositories for the woman, and in the form of a cream for the man.

Local antifungal.
Pharmacodynamics
Sertaconazole is an antifungal agent derived from imidazole and benzothiophene. It has fungistatic and fungicidal effects in therapeutic doses. Active against fungi of the genus Candida. It also has antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria (staphylo- and streptococci).
The mechanism of action of sertaconazole is to inhibit the synthesis of ergosterol, increasing the permeability of the fungal cell membrane, which leads to lysis of the fungal cell.
There is no systemic absorption after intravaginal use.
Zalain suppositories and ointment are an antifungal remedy, the active ingredient of which is a derivative of benzothiophene and imidazole. Local application of therapeutic dosages of the drug is characterized by fungicidal and fungistatic effectiveness. The central mechanism of action is aimed at suppressing the processes of ergosterol synthesis and increasing the permeability of mycotic cell membranes, which is actually the cause of lysis of the fungal cell.
The antifungal activity of the drug extends to strains of fungi of the genus Candida. Antibacterial effectiveness is manifested against gram-positive microorganisms (Staphylococcus and Streptococcus).
When applied topically, sertaconazole nitrate is not detectable in the patient's blood or urine. When used intravaginally, absorption of the active ingredient of the drug is not observed.
Zalain for fungus
The instructions for use of Zalain say that this is a drug with a local antifungal effect. The scope of its use is gynecology, diseases caused by pathogenic fungi. Due to the active composition, the medication acts externally, eliminating signs of disease. The active ingredient is sertaconazole nitrate, which has a fungistatic and fungicidal effect.

The antifungal drug Zalain contains the active substance sertaconazole nitrate, which is a derivative of imidazole and benzothiophene. Therapeutic doses of the drug have fungicidal and fungistatic effects. The mechanism of operation of the substance is to inhibit the synthesis of ergosterol and increase the permeability of the cell membrane, which leads to gradual lysis (dissolution) of the fungal cell.
The drug in the form of suppositories exhibits activity against fungi of the genus Candida, and has antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria of streptococci and staphylococci. The cream is active against pathogenic fungi Candida, phytospores, dermatophytes, causative agents of infections of the skin and mucous membranes, Staphylococcus.
- mycoses of the skin of the legs, feet, hands, torso, beard, nail bed, skin folds, external genitalia in men;
- skin candidiasis;
- multi-colored lichen on the body.
Contraindications
Zalain cream is indicated for use for the treatment of superficial skin mycoses, including: mycoses of the hands, feet and legs; mycoses of the beard; mycoses of the trunk; pityriasis versicolor; candidiasis.
Zalain suppositories are prescribed for local treatment of infections of the vaginal mucous membranes caused by strains of fungi of the genus Candida (thrush/vulvovaginal candidiasis).
The use of all dosage forms of the drug is contraindicated if the patient has personal hypersensitivity to any imidazole derivatives (including sertaconazole) or additional ingredients of the drug.
Before using Zalain for thrush in women and men, you should carefully read the instructions for the drug, which indicate that the permissible norm is one suppository per day during the acute form of the disease. In case of chronic candidiasis, it is allowed to administer a suppository 2 times a day, but only the attending physician should prescribe the duration of the course and dosage of the drug.
The main indications for the use of Zalain suppositories are:
- mixed type infections developing in the vagina;
- vaginal thrush;
- infectious diseases of the vaginal mucosa.
We suggest that you familiarize yourself with Diaper rash between the toes of a child: treatment with folk remedies
Like any other medicine, Zalain has contraindications and side effects. First of all, it is not recommended to use suppositories if you are individually intolerant to the components of the drug. It is worth knowing that patients who are allergic to imidazole, on which sertaconazole is based, are at risk.
Manufacturer: Ferrer International, Spain
Release form: suppository, cream
Active ingredient: sertaconazole
Synonyms: Sertamicol cream
The drug belongs to the group of antifungal agents active against Candida and gram-positive bacteria.
In the form of a suppository, it is used for vulvovaginal candidiasis in women. Can be used during menstruation.
Indications for use of Zalain cream:

Patient reviews
Elena, 42 years old, Tula:
I have never encountered a fungus in my life. A couple of months ago, my husband and daughter visited the water park. It seems that all the visitors are decent people with children. But my daughter returned with a “gift” - a fungus appeared on her fingernails. At first they thought it would go away on its own. But the fungus spread very quickly. My daughter began to develop complexes and refused to go to school. At the pharmacy, my eyes widened at the number of antifungal agents. I consulted with the pharmacist. She recommended Zalain. The price was reasonable. I bought the ointment and carefully read the instructions. The ointment should be applied to the nails twice a day for 7-10 days. We started treatment and within five days all manifestations of the fungus disappeared! My daughter and I’s joy knew no bounds! We carried out the full course (ten days), as written in the instructions. The fungus disappeared like a bad dream in the morning. Good, high quality product. Now we buy in reserve.
Nikolay, 56 years old, Vitebsk:
Fungus is an infection from which no one is immune. It would seem that I am not a young person, I am clean, I don’t go to baths and saunas, I don’t visit the pool, I wash my feet regularly, I change my socks every day. I'm 100% safe! But everything turned out wrong. I went to relax at the lake with friends. I bought it, and a couple of days later I noticed a fungus on my foot. Friends, having learned about the problem, advised all sorts of medications. But I only trust doctors. I went to the local clinic to see a dermatologist. He confirmed the diagnosis and prescribed Zalain. I warned you right away: the drug is not cheap, but it is effective. I bought it and was not disappointed. Within five days I was completely free of the fungus. I anointed my feet for another five days as a preventive measure. Now I buy the cream in reserve. Let it be in the first aid kit. I’ll tell you for sure: “Zalain” is worth the money! The fungus simply has no chance.
Liliya, 23 years old, Khabarovsk:
I visited the pool and came back with a fungus. At first I didn't pay attention. And it gradually spread to the second leg. It's embarrassing to go out in sandals. And telling someone is also inconvenient. And I’m generally afraid of doctors! I suffered, I suffered, I was treated with folk remedies. It only got worse. And then a friend came to see me, without warning. When I saw my nails, I got scared. She scolded me for not telling anyone and not going to the doctor. And she recommended the Zalain cream; she used it to cure her husband’s fungus. I ran to the pharmacy and bought it. I didn't even think about the price. I suffered so much with this fungus! I started applying it twice a day as directed. And on the sixth day I felt much better. Conducted the full course - 10 sessions. And just in case, I applied it for another week. I was very afraid that he would appear again. But the fungus disappeared completely! Thanks to Zalain! Now I flaunt in fashionable sandals, and hide a tube in the medicine cabinet. This is my little secret.

Sertaconazole has a fungistatic and fungicidal effect against yeast-like fungi. Thanks to its chemical structure, it effectively fights Candida (thrush fungi): the sertaconazole molecule contains an azole ring, which stops the growth of the fungus and makes it difficult for it to reproduce further.
However, doctors still do not recommend using Zalain during pregnancy. The instructions for the drug indicate that there is not enough data regarding the use of Zalain during pregnancy. That is why you can resort to the drug only in case of emergency, after consultation with your doctor, and only after 14 weeks. There is a possibility that the potent substances of the drug may subsequently provoke allergies in the child.
Side effects
When using the cream, the formation of local reactions, manifested in the form of contact dermatitis, was sometimes noted. They also allow the possibility of the development of rapidly passing erythematous phenomena that do not require cessation of treatment.
Suppositories for thrush occasionally led to allergic manifestations, as well as burning/itching sensations in the vagina, which did not require discontinuation of the drug and disappeared on their own with further therapy. These side effects are classified as classic effects observed with the use of local vaginal dosage forms and reflect the effectiveness of the drug.
Rarely - a burning sensation, itching in the vagina, which disappear on their own during treatment and do not require discontinuation of the drug. These side effects are classic for topical medications and reflect the effectiveness of the drug. Allergic reactions are possible.
If any other side effects not listed above develop, you should inform your doctor.
Presence of side effects and overdose
Since the use of the drug is not prescribed systematically, systemic side effects do not develop from it. In almost all recorded cases of using the cream, it was well tolerated by patients. When the instructions for use of the dosage form are followed, negative side effects do not develop.
In some isolated cases, developing adverse reactions, such as erytherma, have been noted. But these processes go away on their own in a short period of time and there is no need to cancel treatment.
When using the cream, an overdose is unlikely. If you miss taking the drug during the repeated procedure, do not increase the dose. Both men and women should use Zalain carefully in the genital area.
Since there is no data on the body’s reaction to a significant excess of the dose, you should be extremely careful not to violate the procedure prescribed by the doctor and not to increase the dose yourself.
Zalain - instructions for use
Before you begin treatment for thrush, you should consult a doctor who will conduct an examination, make a correct diagnosis and determine how sensitive Candida fungi are to the drug. This way, the specialist is able to more accurately determine the duration of treatment, which will eliminate all symptoms and prevent the recurrence of the disease. As a rule, the course is 1 week.
According to the instructions, Zalain vaginal suppositories are very effective against thrush. In the acute stage of the disease, it is enough to use one suppository before bedtime, but if a chronic form is observed, the doctor will prescribe different dosages and timing of use.
When using Zalain suppositories for thrush, you should follow the following rules:
- before inserting the suppository into the vagina, you need to wash yourself thoroughly, using herbal infusions for these purposes that have anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects;
- insertion of a suppository into the vagina occurs in a lying position, and it must be inserted deeply;
- the procedure is carried out before bedtime, which allows the medicine to completely dissolve and have a detrimental effect on yeast-like fungi for a long time.
Proper use of the cream involves applying it evenly in a thin layer to the infected areas of the skin, covering about 1 cm of healthy skin around the problem area. The recommended frequency of use of the drug is 2 times every 24 hours, with the duration of therapy depending on the etiology of the pathogen and the infectious localization (most often 4 weeks). The disappearance of symptoms of infection is usually observed after 2-4 weeks.
It is not recommended to simultaneously use other local antifungal drugs (ointments, solutions, gels, etc.).
We suggest you read: Is it possible to confuse herpes and HIV - Treatment of HIV and AIDS
Vaginal suppositories of the drug are intended for single use. One suppository, previously removed from the blister, should be inserted deep into the vagina. This procedure is recommended to be performed before going to bed in a horizontal (lying on your back) body position. If the negative symptoms of thrush persist, you can repeat the procedure for introducing a suppository after 7 days.
Immediately before inserting the suppository, hygiene of the external genital organs should be carried out using alkaline or neutral soap.
For thrush, only 1 suppository in the package is prescribed per course. It is inserted deep into the vagina, preferably at night. Allowed for use during menstruation.
If thrush is very widespread, when the labia and nearby tissues are affected, Zalain cream is applied. This form is also suitable for a partner.
If the skin of the beard is affected by fungi, the cream is applied 1-2 times a day for 4 weeks. A decrease in disease symptoms is observed 2 weeks after the start of treatment.
When using the medicine Zalain, skin redness may occur.
The effectiveness and safety of using the drug Zalain during pregnancy and lactation has not been studied. The decision to use the product during these periods is made by the doctor based on the desired effect and the risk to the mother and child.
Overdose
Use of Zalain during pregnancy is allowed only after consultation with your doctor. The cream is most often prescribed to people with fungal infections of the skin. Details about the causes of mycosis of the skin and how it manifests itself are described here. It needs to be used twice a day, on average two weeks are enough for a complete cure.
It is strongly not recommended to spread the product over healthy areas of the skin, as this negatively affects the water balance and kills all beneficial microorganisms. In some cases, specialists select a different treatment regimen, which in this case will be most suitable. For nail fungus, the gel is applied directly to the plate after a manicure.
Candles are used once a day - it is best to do a similar procedure in the evening before bed. Before administration, you must wash yourself thoroughly without using soap. Try to insert the candle as deeply as possible - this will help achieve the best medicinal effect. On average, 7 suppository procedures are enough to treat thrush.
During treatment, you must completely stop using soap for intimate hygiene. You can also use analogues to treat thrush. It is not recommended to use the drug immediately before childbirth and after drinking alcohol.
Intravaginally, once.
Before using the drug, you must wash the external genitalia using neutral or alkaline soap.
One vaginal suppository is inserted deep into the vagina, lying on your back, before bed.
If clinical symptoms persist, the suppository may be reintroduced after 7 days.
Not installed. If you accidentally take the drug orally, you must rinse your stomach and consult a doctor immediately.
Each release form of Zalain has its own method of use and dosage indicated in the instructions. The cream is intended for external use, applied to affected skin. Vaginal suppositories are used intravaginally in the treatment of diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to the active component. The course of treatment and dosage depend on the type of disease and are prescribed by a doctor.
Candles Zalain
According to the instructions, vaginal suppositories are used once. One suppository is inserted deep into the vagina before bed while lying on your back. If clinical symptoms of thrush persist, re-use is possible after a week. You should first wash the external genitalia with neutral or alkaline soap and perform appropriate hygiene.
Cream Zalain
According to the instructions, Zalain cream or ointment is applied to the affected areas of the skin in an even thin layer. Frequency of use: twice a day (morning, evening). When treating the surface, it is necessary to capture about a centimeter of the healthy area on each side. The duration of treatment depends on the location and type of infectious agent; symptoms begin to disappear after two weeks, and the course lasts about a month. The cream cannot be used vaginally.
The instructions for use of vaginal suppositories and cream for external use Zalain do not mention overdose, because it has not been established due to the external method of use and low systemic absorption. In case of accidental ingestion of medicines, it is necessary to rinse the stomach, take activated charcoal and seek medical help.

Zalain during pregnancy and lactation
The instructions for the drug allow the use of Zalain cream and suppositories during pregnancy and lactation, only after an individual assessment by a doctor of the risk/benefit ratio for the woman/child (fetus), which is confirmed by both positive and negative reviews about Zalain during pregnancy and lactation in women when - have been treated with this drug.
Yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida are found in limited quantities in the body of every person. As long as the immune system is able to cope with them, it controls their growth and prevents reproduction. Otherwise, thrush pathogens begin to actively grow and spread, forming entire colonies, which contributes to the development of the disease.
When carrying a baby, a woman’s immune system weakens sharply: the body independently suppresses its work so that it does not accept the developing fetus as foreign. That is why during pregnancy and lactation the fair sex is vulnerable to infectious and fungal diseases that “attack” them from all sides.
When thrush develops during pregnancy, doctors try to find medications that would not harm the unborn baby. This condition must be observed in the first trimester of pregnancy, when all the baby’s organs are formed.
As laboratory studies have shown, Zalain suppositories do not cause any harm to the baby during pregnancy, but they should be used only when absolutely necessary, since the medicine contains enzymes produced on a chemical basis. In severe cases, the drug is prescribed only if there is a serious risk to the developing fetus.
Since Zalain vaginal suppositories have a local effect and are not able to penetrate into the blood and breast milk, they can be used in the treatment of candidiasis during lactation, but the drug is prescribed by a doctor.
There are no sufficient data on the use of sertaconazole during pregnancy and lactation. However, taking into account the method of administration of the drug (single administration), as well as the lack of systemic absorption after intravaginal administration, the use of sertaconazole during pregnancy and lactation is possible if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus or child.
special instructions
In order for the use of Zalain for thrush to give the expected effect, you must follow certain rules:
- during treatment, it is prohibited to use soap and other personal hygiene products that have a high level of acidity;
- you need to wear only natural underwear made of cotton, which will allow the skin to breathe;
- It is prohibited to use scented pads;
- should be washed thoroughly;
- adhere to the principles of healthy eating.
The morning after using the suppository, vaginal discharge is observed, which is considered a natural reaction to the administration of the drug. Although the main part of Zalain has already managed to fix itself in the body and begin its therapeutic effect, a slight leakage of the product is usually observed during the day, so it is worth purchasing panty liners without aromatization. You should also not douche, otherwise the main substance will be washed out of the internal genital organs, which will reduce the effectiveness of the drug.
Zalain cream, which is also often prescribed for the treatment of thrush in men, will help eliminate itching and irritation of the genital organs due to candidiasis.
Despite the fact that Zalain can be used during menstruation, doctors prefer to prescribe it before or after so that the components of the drug are not excreted from the body with menstrual secretions. If symptoms worsen, they can be alleviated with a single administration of a suppository, but the main treatment is best carried out only after the end of the critical days.
The drug cream is not intended for use in ophthalmic practice.

Pharmacological characteristics
This cream is a topical remedy that fights any type of fungus. Its action is due to the presence of the substance sertaconazole, which is produced using imidazole, a benzothiophene. It is characterized by having a strong fungicidal as well as fungistatic effect on infectious agents (fungi, yeast).
This enzyme has two different pathways of action due to its chemical composition. Sertaconazole has an azole ring in its molecule, which makes it possible to inhibit the synthesis of ergosterol, which is the main compound in the membrane and structure of fungal cells. This effect prevents the parasite cells from multiplying.
Another component, benzothiophene, destroys bacteria by perforating the membrane. The complex effect of the enzymes contained in sertaconazole prevents the resistance of microorganisms to the substance and reduces relapses. Thanks to these components, the cream is effective in combating a wide range of fungi, dermatophytes, as well as microbes that cause dermatological infections and diseases of the mucous membranes.
The therapeutic effect of Zalanin is stronger than its analogues can offer. It is worth noting that the cream is used only for topical use, so it is absorbed into the skin, but does not enter the bloodstream. Therefore, it is the safest possible remedy; it is prescribed even to children.
